Where am I making fun of anything?

That's the whole point of this thread.

People advocating that behaviour. Posting pictures just to piss off a whole religion.

In this case, it's not you alone, its the entire support for anything even like that. That its ok to do it just because you dont get why people think its horridly rude.

I actually have said several times throughout the thread that I think it is a bad idea.....

Split on this concept.

Do I think that one should go out of ones way just to piss people off? No... Facebook is being teh dumb for suggesting this is productive at all.

(In reference to revs statement)

Yeah... I don't find this very constructive at all... I am in agreement with you.

I will have to go with Rev here and say two wrongs don't make a right...

sometimes standing up to a bully is the only way to get them to stop kicking your ass.

it is freedom of speech, and just because the speech is against something religious does not mean it deserves it's own little loop hole.

You're more riding the fence, it sounds.

Half your arguement sounds like you're agreeing its tacky, but on the other hand saying you're annoyed that anyone would argue against offending someone's religious preferences.

Noone is making any exceptions for religion in specific here(or at least, I'm not). I simply think its a shitty, bigoted thing to do. Thats why I said so. I'd have said the same thing if it was advocating secretly slipping Jews non-kosher food, mailing Hindus pictures of cow abuse, or any other bigoted act designed to offend.

Do I think that any visual representation of Muhammad should result in death is a bigoted thing to believe in that is destructive to the world? Yes.... Do I think facebook is doing the right thing about it? No!

I think everyone is in agreement that the extremists are horrible people, and don't deserve our regard or concern.

No one is saying such behaviour from them is in any realm an acceptable response.

The point I'm making however, is that no one is giving anything a "pass" because it touches on religion. And leaning the opposite direction because you think religion is absurd is just as bad as those you think are giving behaviours a 'pass'.

I have never asked anyone to excuse my behavior because of my lack of religion, I have never been asked for special rights from it, nor have I asked to not be held accountable for my actions because of it.

But I know a lot people who ask for there behavior to be excused because of their religion. How is me saying that people need to be held accountable for their actions whether they are religious or not leaning in a certain direction?

My point is that peoples actions are there own no matter what they get behind. Why is it that churches don't have to pay taxes? Why is it that the Vatican is not being treated like any other organization that covered up the illegal activities of it's members? If there is a reason here that I am missing that does not have to do with religion getting special privilege above other organizations or a "pass" then what is it?

Vatican, is it's own Sovereign Country.

I'll tell you this, if someone fed me beef on purpose, knowing I had sworn it off, I'ld get my Gypsy Revenge ;)

..same for holding me down & cutting my 'locks...for certain...

i just wanted to make clear that i'm neither condoning nor condemning the people that started/are participating in "draw mohammed" day. my point was that it's not my place to judge them for doing it, and they should have every right to say it if they wish. this isn't yelling 'fire' in a crowded theatre, this is voicing an opinion (and not really even that, because just drawing something isn't necessarily an opinion).

question: regardless of whether you agree with these people participating, what does everyone think of their *right* to do so, if they wish? i've not really seen much on that topic, mostly it's been judgement & condemnation of the people involved.

so, do/should these people have the right to do this?

Torn I'll say they do. And I am riding the fence on this one as I can see why this is getting so popular, and at the same time, why it is so wrong.

It's freedom of expression, wich is right there with freedom of speech.

But I do agree it's taking on a misguided Jr. High mentality.

I can't really get into to detail without sounding biased about religion though..

Just my closing thought, I believe they have the right to do this, but at the same time it doesn't make it right.

I already said some such to the extent that it is their right, as it is my right to condemn them as douchebags.

I still don't get how it's wrong for any images of their prophet to exist, yet it's perfectly acceptable and encouraged to change your name to that of the prophet.

Yeah... its almost as if religion might contradict itself here and there....

Ha!! If that were the case, they wouldn't make their hypocrisies so damned obvious!

It probably isn't obvious to them...kinda like how I don't notice how bad my farts smell even when people jump out of the car I am driving on the freeway...or it could be my shitty mix tape...hmmmm

....wow.

Your bias just about matches theirs.

Just because someone can say or do whatever under the umbrella of free speech, doesnt mean its not tasteless and rude.

I thought being tasteless and rude and saying what you want was the whole point of free speech... Sure, its tasteless and rude, but its their right to say it... If people don't like it, don't watch listen or look... That's also their right... I honestly don't get what the big deal is...

Edited to remove a bit of unintended condescension.
