Help with tying boots

Alright...well, I doubt a new pair of Dr. Marten's combat boots from eBay recently. The only issue...I'm not quite sure how to go about tying them.

They have the usual lace-ups but then they have little hooks that I assume you weave the laces around before tying...but this is a unique sort of boot, I think. And I'm not sure exactly how they are supposed to look.

I ended up tying them fully as best I could and then wrapped the laces around the upper part of the boot to hold in the part that frayed out (because I didn't really like the look). I know they were laced in correctly and I'll probably keep lacing them incorrectly, lol But I'd like to know the correct way, if someone could give me their opinion?

Even when they have the hooks up top the laces should still look the same as the ones going through the eyes when you are done tying them. The hooks are really only there so that the boots are easier to get on and off of your feet. The only thing you can't really do with the hooks is straight lace the boots. Instead of putting the laces through eyes you are putting them through hooks...unless this is a new type of boot...

Well, yes, that's what I did.

But the boots are kind of unique with the white lace parts at the top, it sort of splays out a little, unlike how the picture shows. Maybe I just need more practice with them...but I dunno.

Laces are always onger on combat boots. I wrap mine around the top a couple times.

Remember with fashion you dont need to do it "the right way". Do it the Eevee way. You see how I dress, I dont look like anyone else.

I have a pair that are held together and on me feets with electrical tape. That's the classy way to do it.

Electrical tape works wonders for holding your boots on...I am totally serious about that too. It can also gather up the extra length on your laces.

These boots are a little different. It sticks out at the top, due to the white lace.

I'll probably just continue wrapping them around the top.

Wore something similar for 8 years.

They are speed lace eyelets on the calf part, from the picture. If you are going to wear them for quick on/quick off, they should be laced criss-crossed like normal shoelaces, and pulling on both ends will snap them shut.

You are going to have extra length on the laces regardless, as they need to be long to accommodate the boot opening and closing with a wide enough throat to get your foot in quickly (especially necessary with heavy socks.)

And Prick is right about the laces; you have to wrap them up around the top a couple of times to get them short enough to tie around.

Another option, and I don't think it is available outside of standard military boots, is lacing zippers into the boots. I used them on a pair of jungle boots I rarely wear. Example here. I think the Air Force was the only service that would still allow you to wear zippers in the boots.

Yeah with good reason, too. Combat boots with zippers are no good.
