DJ Saint
Wednesday, July 7, 2010 Sullen Serenade w/sg: The Spiritual Bat Tickets $10 door only ALL AGES Doors at 8p.m. Appearing at: Small's 10339 Conant, Hamtramck MI 48212 Sullen Serenade Sullen Serenade is a single act initiated by Texan Robert Flores in the autumn of 2006. It was inspired by his unique musical ideas and several group projects resulting in a new work of art. The sound consists of vicious and loud percussion combined with wistful melodies giving it a “soundtrack” overtone. The influence for this derives from an eclectic musical selection, many life experiences, cultures and of course, the love of listening to music. Over the years, Robert has dabbled in various drumming and percussion rhythm with a kit that utilizes percussion instruments from all over the world and rivals Neil Peart’s in size. Hear Sullen Seranades music on the web at www.myspace.com/sullenserenade The Spiritual Bat Hailing from Italy, The Spiritual Bat is a classic goth rock outfit. Originally known as Spiritual Bats, the band has always been headed by composer and multi-instrumentalist Dario Passamonti. Other members have come and gone, from co-founder Matteo Bracaglia up to its current incarnation with shamanic drummer and vocalist Rosy Garrì. As a duo, Dario and Rosy really shine, trading the metal aspects for a heightened sense of musicality and composition. The band creates a unique atmosphere unlike anything typically heard in America using a very tribal percussion rhythm, reminiscent of Tool, along with beautifully sung, ambient vocals like the lamentation of some divine being calling from the darkest pits of the darkest cave. The guitars played by Dario are beautifully composed and seem to wrap around you as he plays. Every note carries emotion and forces the listener to heed it's message. The Spiritual Bat have only recently finished their U.S. tour playing through the musical underground and spreading their benevolent, psychedelic, darkness, it is only a matter of time before they return and do it again..In 1994 the Spiritual BatS had the honour of opening for Rozz Williams (Christian Death) and his Daucus Karota. Hear The Spiritual Bat music on the web at www.myspace.com/thespiritualbat Additional info to be posted this week at Darque Productions And look for posters/fliers in all the usual shops/haunts soon as well. Mean Salley
http://events.myspace.com/Event/1168970/THE-SPIRITUAL-BAT-ITALY--SULLEN-SERENADE-TEXAS-US-TOUR-2010- I've been speaking a bit with the gang from Sullen Serenade and am awaiting their arrival on the 7th. Both bands are a traditional sort of goth lineup with a fair amount of percussion stuff. For those of you who like what is really "goth" music (not goth-industrial, goth-metal, goth-punk) this will be something not to miss. Both bands have hot chicks too holla if you're going

Mean Salley
I thought I saw a post for this and couldn't find it so I made another one. Anyways, I've been speaking a bit with the bloke from Sullen Serenade about music stuff and am interested to hear both of these bands. Both bands do some percussion stuff, but Sullen Serenade has quite a bit of drum stuff going on, and I like the classic goth feel of both bands, along with some of the newer ideas thrown in. DJ Saint
For those that missed this or decided to stay at home, you missed out on a spectacular show. DJ Scary Guy and Void 6 got the night going by spinning a nice mix of goth and industrial tracks respectively. Sullen Serenade played a fantastic set of music consisting of a lot of the new material from the new album "POSTHUMOUS". The tribal drumming of band leader Robert simply amazing with dead on syncopation. Mix this with the every hypnotizing movements of a belly dancer along with the drones and plodding of guitar/bass player and it was nearly impossible to divert your attention from what was taking place onstage. The belly dancer at one point balanced herself on wine glasses and also balanced a sharpened sword upon her head. Fans of Faith and The Muse, Lycia as well as Dead Can Dance should give the young Sullen Serenade the attention due to them as well as they share many similarities with the aforementioned bands. A shot from Sullen Serenades performance: The Spiritual Bat does old school gothic... and they do it very well. Traces of Cure-like guitar and a vocal delivery that shows an appreciation for Siouxsie. The songs ranging from a wide catalog, were hauntingly dark and well executed. Their sound is an atmosphere unto itself. If you're into the genuine goth bands this bands music should be in your collection as well. Thanks to all those who attended and with more events scheduled, Darque Productions hopes to see you at an event or two or more.
