I've also offered to sell the major media sources a very blurry picture I took of Touchdown Jesus while driving past it (Because safety is my middle name!) so they could have yet another photo of it as it once stood.... but ... they still haven't gotten back to me. Anywho, I guess the lesson here is, that's what they get for constructing a statue made of fiberglass/foam over a metal frame that tall.... lightning rod jesus! DJ Saint
and sad that so many find humor in it. The Irony of it all is worth a chuckle... Still not as funny as when Dawn of the Dead and Last Temptation of Christ were both in theaters at the same time. One headline read "Zombies push Jesus from Top of North American Box Office" http://www.newamsterdamnyc.com/html/images/03.21.04%20Reuters%20-%20Zomies%20push%20Jesus%20from%20Top.pdf That's creative writing
Msterbeau
and sad that so many find humor in it. No, what's sad is that a church that supposedly follows the teachings of Christ would first waste over $250,000 - $300,000 to erect a large statue of him and then propose to rebuild it after this accident, instead of using it to help it's members in need or donate it to worthy charities. That a church has that kind of money to toss around (Or the people running it) says all you need to know about their priorities. If this had been their church and not the statue, it wouldn't have been funny. Or perhaps it would have been even more ironic.

Those are like those crazy broad moms that go out and have kids to have them as their little trophies instead of having kids to try to bring a life into the world that you love and cherish. Same kind of bullshit, I'm glad these people got their stupid statue struck down by lightning. If you're going to call yourself Christian you should actually, you know..PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!!! . If you're spending twice as much as an average house used to cost in the 90s to build some thing out of fucking fiberglass and metal that Christ wouldn't even GIVE A SHIT ABOUT when that money could have gone to "Teach a man how to fish" so-to-speak, not only does your stupid statue deserve to burn but their church should have been struck with it. "oooh - look at our fancy church! aren't we special, mr. homeless guy!?" and a statue? a freakin' statue, when there are people in serious need? disgusting. Msterbeau
Whats it like to live in a world where facts and reality have no bearing? What's it like to throw out vague questions without elaborating on their meaning and expecting more than a sarcastic response? Oh wait... you probably don't expect anything more than that. So I can finally get to their site. And I do see that they spend money "helping" others. But this help seems to come with a string attached - ie. accepting god into your life and submitting to their teachings about him. Help, like love, should be unconditional. This place is nothing more than scam that uses the name of God and Christ to bilk people out of their money and brainwash more into doing so... You're right. It is sad. A sad, pathetic manipulation of our rights and freedoms in this country, so they can make a buck.

That's why I consider it to be a failed religion now, or well on its way. There are very few Christians I've met that actually SOMEWHAT follow the teachings and practices of Christ. Most people call themselves Christian and never even read any of the scriptures they're just Christian because it's the socially accepted thing to do. The whole thing is skewed. Then asshats like Pat Robertson came along and found out he could make a buck off of some suckers and it became even more corrupt. Downward spiral, and I don't think it's ever going to recover. Giant downward spiral of corruption, trying to control, trying to coerce money from, trying to get worshiped as humans instead of telling humans to worship God/Christ, etc. This church that had their statue struck down fully encompassed the Pretender Christian viewpoint and as I said earlier, I'm only sad the church itself didn't burn down to the ground too. Maybe they'll take this as a sign from God...? Probably too ignorant though, they probably will think the Devil sent the lightning . Logic FTW! Gaf The Horse With Tears
Let me less vague... Your hate speech gets old. I get sick of the hate speech aimed at Christanity and the acceptance that hate speech gets. If it were any other religion getting so much hate speech aimed at it you would all be up in arms... but against Christian everything is on the table. Perhaps I should start a thread about the faithlessness of the Unitarian Universalism church. I could go on for days about how stupid modern Wicca is. Oh thats right, there was the "burning time" that accounts for the lack of histirical evidence that Wicca existed before 1952. We can just ignore that there is no evidence of the Burning time either... I'm just going to be content in the knowledge that I won't have to deal with you or your type in the after life. Oh, so your not confused... I'm talking to Marc.

One who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ so long as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin."
