6-story 'Touchdown' Jesus statue in Ohio struck by lightning

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's funny, but I don't think it's upsetting, either. It is what it is; a natural disaster destroyed an inanimate object. There is no mention in the article of anyone being killed or seriously injured by this, and it did not destroy anyone's faith.

We were talking about this concept in Buddhism class this weekend. Faith lives inside those who believe in it. It does not live in statues, churches, temples, and religious symbols, those things are material. If those things are destroyed, yes, it's frustrating for the artists, architects and workers who created and built them because there is nothing left to show for their hard work, but it has no bearing on the intangible elements of faith.

Do I think that the $300,000 to $700,000 (according to the article) they will need to rebuild the statue could be spent on better things? Absolutely! I think rebuilding it would be a huge waste of money, no pun intended. But since I am not contributing to any funds for the running of this church it doesn't matter what I think they should spend their money on.

Idiots like Pat Robertson

and religious zealots

definition of a zealot.

A person who has ruined religion by using it for his own personal gain and to make him seem like (s)he's better than non-religious people.

these are the kinds of people(garbage) who gave religion a bad name.

and are the ones I hate

nough said.

Perhaps I should start a thread about the faithlessness of the Unitarian Universalism church. I could go on for days about how stupid modern Wicca is. Oh thats right, there was the "burning time" that accounts for the lack of histirical evidence that Wicca existed before 1952. We can just ignore that there is no evidence of the Burning time either...

Knock yourself out, pot. Or would you like to be kettle today?

They're bible bouncers, of course they are spending thousands more dollars, in an economically repressed region to deliberately ignore the 2nd commandment as well as the economically repressed peoples, to rebuild a colossal eyesore.

I'm sure this one will burn down, fall over, and then sink into the swamp.

but maybe the fourth one will stay up! and that's what you're gonna get, lad - the strongest touch-down jesus in these isles!

Theres no need to air out all these hostilities in touchdown jesus' name. i'm sure that touchdown jesus would have just wanted us all to live amongst one another peacefully and set aside our differences.

Of course there are some who would say there never was a touchdown jesus, they may say how convenient it is that touchdown jesus burned down and there is no proof now that touchdown jesus existed at all. but we are all forgetting touchdown jesus' most important message: never stand outside waving your arms around in a lightning storm.
