Some of you have talents and tricks you've developed over the years.

Be it with tricks to sewing the amazing clothes you make (I'm looking at you,TheOsakaKoneko!), the perfectly blended makeup, the flawless dreads, gravity defying hair or whatever it is that you've perfected...share!

Who knows, you may inspire someone to try something they never thought of...or perhaps they have thought of but didn't know how to go about it. May even help someone reading this thread one day figure out how they want to go about creating their own look!

Hell, want to ask how to do something in general? Ask away - someone might know!

The only thing people ever ask me about personally, is my mohawk. I put a lot of effort into its shape as well as a lot of effort into maintaining hair and scalp health, for the sake of the mohawk I do so love.

Now, I have very fine hair. I've had to develop a few tricks for that. Tricks on a budget in my younger years.

First, I have a professional cut it for me. I like to keep my lines on the side straight and clean. I keep the length trimmed. It's worth the $20 a month it costs to have it trimmed and shaped properly. Does it have to be done professionally? No...but I believe if you are going to use your hair to stand out - don't be sloppy unless the POINT is for it to be sloppy.

For standing it up - no, I don't use egg whites. Or glue. Or paste. Or anything else from an arts and crafts place. I like to be able to take my hair down easily enough when it comes time to go to work the next day.

I start with a good thick gel, massaged into the base of the hair. This is very important, as without a good base to stand upon a mohawk will just fail.

After the gel is mostly dried, I re-wet the hair lightly and apply the product. Of all things, the best thing I've ever found is "Axe Charged 'spiked up look' putty". At $7.99 a container, it's pretty cheap...it's very good at what it does and one container lasts me a few months. Bonus - it smells good.

After that's rubbed into the hair, I take a the wide end of a comb or a brush through the hair to remove clumps. Usually at this point, I wash my hands - grab a drink, check facebook real fast then get to shaping it. Reason for the other stuff? To give it a few moments to dry. From there, I can just shape it by hand.

Total time invested - 15 minutes (sometimes more if I'm being a perfectionist, depends on mood, +/- margin of about 5 minutes).

Total $ invested (not counting getting hair cut, just product) - about $10.00 a month.

Easy, sanitary, healthy mohawk on a budget.

As for taking it down? About 3 minutes to wash everything out.

Want to maintain it for a couple of days? You can even sleep on it and just easily reshape it with a little bit of water to re-moisten the putty.

I tried to make yellow goth and failed miserably because yellow is not goth :X. Then I just made yellow into Chernobyl and won .

When I stand russell Mowhawk up this is the process we use:

Take a shower, I find that it is much easier with clean hair then dirty. After the shower I blowdry it with a brush. As I blowdry it I pull it up to make sure all the hair is going the same way. After that I use a light hold gel and contuine to blowdry it. Making sure the base has a good amount of gel in it. Like Reav says if you don't have a good base it's just gonna fall.

After the hair is dry on to the supermegacrazy hold hair spray. spray both sides and use a blowdryer on low and syle. I have noticed that when his hair is getting long it takes a bit more effort to get it to stand perfect without a curve.

total time: about 20 mins

total cost: maybe $15

total awesomeness: priceless

I'll try the supermegacrazy hair spray method, if I ever have assistance putting mine up lol. I had to learn how to do mine solo.

I do agree though, clean hair is MUCH easier to work with!

I realize that in this scene many people want their hair colors to look unnatural, so I guess this tip isn't for everyone, but if you want your hair color to look natural, or at least professionally done, never just dye your hair all one color. Most people's natural hair color has subtle variations, so when I see hair all one color, especially red or black, it's easy to tell it was a DIY dye job.

When I want to keep my hair all one basic shade I will highlight or lowlight some strands before I put on the all over color so that some areas will look brighter or darker. This works especially well with reds.

CORSETS.... please ladies, tie your corset from the center. I have seen lots of new girlies that don't know how to tie a corset. There should be 4 ties altogether, two from the bottom and two from the top meeting at the center.

then start from the top and tighten to center. Then the same for the bottom. at the center give one last good tug and tie off.

For hair gel, I use "got to be glued" it works awesome and I found out you can actually get it at the freaking dollar store now which is awesome, because its 5 bucks at miejers or wherever else you go.

When putting on your eye make up keep some Q-tips and a bottle of eye make-up remover close at all times. When you make a mistake with mascara or liquid liner blot(don't wipe) at it with a dry Q-tip. Take another Q-tip and wet one end with make up remover. Blot at what's left of the smear with the wet end, then dry and remove any left over make-up with the dry end. Cuts down the time to fix mistakes, and you don't end up with smear lines on your face. If you make a mistake with eye shadow, use the same process, but with a cotton ball or tissue instead of a Q-tip.
