The Boilerplate Gala: A Steampunk Social @ CC Sat 7/17

Recommended Posts

Very short notice, but the Collective is graciously throwing something of a bon voyage party for Emmy and I as we'll be leaving the Detroit area shortly in the RV and won't be back until early 2011. We'd love to see as many of you as possible before we take off.

It will also be something of a "steampunk primer" and the first steampunk event at the Leland [though hopefully not the last!] Whether you've never heard of it or you're already swapping half your black and silver for brown and brass, we promise you won't be sorry you came out.

We're throwing this thing, but we're really counting on all of you regulars to welcome the CC virgins and show this crowd a good time, okay?

Hope it goes well, but more so, I hope people actually dress up for the theme, and do so correctly :/

I can see some disasters in the mix, but im sure a few people will hold true!

"Why Banning Miller, what a vision you are in that fine dress. Must have taken a dozen slaves a dozen days

just to get you into that get-up. 'Course your daddy tells me it takes the space of a schoolboy's wink to get you out of it again."

Anyone that has seen Firefly, will forgive my rudeness.

For anyone that has not [in a nutshell]: Anyone that says you're doing it wrong, is doing it wrong.

Oh! And if anyone wants help or advice, just ask. It's really a pretty simple look to pull off, and most of you probably have plenty in your closet already that will "work".

In the end, we don't care what you wear, as long as you have fun. It's probably going to be too freaking hot to get crazy costumed up anyway!

I have seen "Firefly", and got the reference.

Although, The amount of WRONG in that statement makes my head hurt.

I agree with your statement in that "Steampunk is not hard to pull off" which is one of the reasons it irritates me when people do it wrong. I dont expect everyone to be masters at it and be decked out in gadgetry or in fantastic victorian get ups, but if I went to your little get together in a neon blue jumpsuit, guess what, its WRONG for steampunk. So your statement is silly. but I suppose i dunno what im talking about. But im sure that some chick that is wearing almost nothing will win best dressed, regardless.

have a dice day.

Me and Draco Should be there with a friend of mine. I will do my best to dress the part. WHat I wore at the steampunk Expo got me many complaments and also asked How am I not falling out. But I will try my best. I was going to just dress as Amber Sweet but sadly The outfit is unavalibe to me this weekend *facepalm* and I have the hair for it damn it!

You're so adorable, we don't care what you wear, lol. I'm sure you'll look fantastic. Be sure to find me or Emmy and get your photo taken so we can prove it!

Yay! Again, the weather will probably have everyone plenty "steamy" anyway. :p

This is coming up fast! Who else is going to come hang with us on Saturday?

I'm interested to see how John Ryan sizes up to steampunk themes...hmmm.

For those of you looking for something afterwards, and if the Collective is down for it, AFTERPARTY at Something Cold inside of the MOTOR CITY MOVIE HOUSE! We go LATE!

Now I have a question. Do we enter thru City Club and then be able to go back and forth between CC and the ballroom? Does the $5 cover both?

To answer: You enter through CC. The way it is set up is that the door to the ballroom will be open, and the $5 covers both CC and the ballroom, free back and forth except for the brief time it takes to run the tills out.

To all who plan to attend--please note that the really cool stuff--the vaudeville show, among others--will probably start "early," for City Club, around 11:30. We're going to hold them back for as long as we can, but the troupe is very eager to go. Arrive at 1 am Gothic Standard Time and you may find that you've missed all of the excitement...

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.

    • I'm glad  that yesterday's day at work is long gone now. There was a very strong unusual energy that I felt, and couldn't get done with the day fast enough. It wasn't  the job at all. I just felt like I really needed to keep my mouth shut, to keep me from getting in situation(s) that probably wouldn't have ended well for me.
    • You can trust anyone you want.  The only question is whether or not they're deserving of that trust. No risk = no reward.  As such you have to let yourself be vulnerable sometimes and realize that all people will let you down eventually whether it's intentional or not.  The frequency that it happens is what's important.
    • Sorry, I don't check this as often as I should. Anyway document everything (although it sounds like @Trene4000already has been from her post.) It's okay to cry and break down, but not in front of them.  Never give them the satisfaction of seeing you crack.  If anything I'd go out of my way to piss them off, but I don't like being that guy either (and as such I'm not very good at it, except sometimes when I'm not intending to be.) I try to only help those whom deserve it, but that's often hard to judge.  Seeing how someone treats other people is a pretty good indicator of whether or not they're worthy.  Sociopathic narcissistic asshats are very much not worthy. I hope things are going well for you guys.
