DGN Night Aftermath, July 24th

Recommended Posts

Wasn't too bad of a turnout of people and the storms never came so the humidity stayed down to a tolerable level. I decided to show up after I drove the Telegraph Cruise. Had a blast all day between the cruise and the club. Saw a few that I hadn't seen in some time including Mina and GothKytten.

Mina and GothKytten were the main reason TWB and I went last night though knowing Mstrbeau and Tyger were coming was the kicker that sealed the deal. When we saw the hearse in the parking lot we knew it must be Reaper or Scary Guy. It was Reaper's hearse and we were thrilled to see him chilling at the bar though it turns out that Scary Guy was there as well. Also ran into Siren and learned that Raev is still nursing three broken ribs from Manfast. Great conversations with a bunch of great people and lots of surprises last night and a lot of fun. Saw several others though didn't get much of a chance to talk with them like Storm Knight, Crank, Rambo, et. al. All in all a rewarding evening. It's been far too long since last I went and hopefully it will be sooner than later that I can return.

Had a decent time last night, hung out with friends, got to meet Reaper, and saw his hearse out front, which was cool getting to meet another hearse driver (I know Scary Guy and have seen his hearse before, so I knew it wasn't his, that and Scary Guy never seems to arrive before 1AM anyway).

Awww!!!

It was a great night! Danced a lot on the sweaty dance floor. Dance with a few lovely ladies, and of course my Msterbeau. Talked with a lot of people, tease a certain Hawaiian a bit (which is always fun).

Those guys in the wrestling masks though creeped me out.... plus they stayed on the dance floor all night... not dancing! >.<

I never heard someone dedicate a song in CC. I thought that was really kool.

Not just a song, the whole set... (reason being: long story, for another time...)

and before anybody gets any crazy ideas... the microphone has been removed from the DJ booth now so further dedications or a random knock knock jokes may ensue...

I noticed the music changed.... I liked it.

I think that's a good idea. The chance that some random drunk person gets a hold of it... not a good thing.

MEMO TO ALL:

WOLFSHEIM NO LONGER COOL!!!

From their beginnings as pitiful young electro-goths to their heyday as slightly older electro-goths (where they bought heir own makeup rather than stealing it from their moms), to their continuing dotage as smelly old German men pretending to be pitiful young electro goths, Wolfsheim have cut a bloody swath (God, why couldn't it be their own wrist) of ugly novelty songs and ever-increasingly annoying shitty goth songs that somehow manage to be downloaded by friendless goths who can't find the other 50,000 goth bands who are much better than Wolfsheim (Diary of Dreams, Ikon, L'Ame Immortelle, etc...). Their power over the goth land has begun to diminish (thanks to bands that have more BAAAAALLLLS and a vocalist who doesn't sound like he has an Oreo shoved in his mouth), their overplayed club hits need to stop being requested.... Even the lead singer realized each song and CD was more worthless than the last and broke the band up to go work on other projects that suck a little less. The bands essentially told everyone to fuck off so in return everyone be nice and give them a "fuck off to you too good sir!" by not requesting their songs.

Please spread the word: Wolfsheim NOT cool. If your thinking of requesting them please also consider slapping yourself hard in the face (prior to a rivet-head doing it for you!) or requesting a much better Cure song instead.

Thanks

Department of Sceneland Security...

alas, just having fun... but seriously Wolfsheims music is played so damn frequently it's time to give wolfsheim a rest and explore some other musical acts. They are on my temporary do not play list unless someone gives me $10 or more for playing them.

I would much rather hear Wolfsheim than Lady Gaga, that "face down ass up" song, that "this is my rifle, it is my life" song, that "skull fuck you" song, and many other pieces of shit I hear often at City.

Ok fair enough...

There's a whole other 6-7 page thread for what would you like to hear the dj's spin... take your suggestions over there you might have better luck in convincing another DJ to play it. or maybe you and Troy can get a guest set somewhere (Resist in Ferndale?) and be a jukebox.

I do agree that Skullfuck has seen enough spins, it's overplayed as well.

Later

EDIT: Hey Spook, let's try this (cause I don't want to come off as being more of a asshole than I already am...), why don't you and I try to think of an awesome track other than Wolfsheim that both of us like/agree upon and that we could get other City Clubbers to perhaps like as well. Are you an In Strict Confidence fan at all?

I thought clubs were to play what the people request to dance to? When did that change? I mean, I am not a huge Wolfsheim fan or anything but I ask the question for the simple question.

Sure to some extent, but any DJ should also be forward thinking enough as well as seize the opportunity to introduce new music on a consistent basis so that progression occurs.

edit: I've also done sets that are NOTHING BUT request, and guess what happens... people complain! Can't please everyone...

Anyways, this type of question and further discussion should be continued in this already started thread. http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?showtopic=31732
