what the point where all you do is complain about everything.... yep that stands to clearly

again wheres your POSITIVE IDEAS to change the Goth/Indy scene?

LoL ya know what, its clear you dont have a clue as to my intentions. I try to do what I can for the scene. I tried more than 1 of my own nights, one which lasted for over a year that you never came to, as well as guest DJ'd for several occasions. aAnd I try to promote actual goth music. its people like you that discourage me. Have a nice day.

These nights should once again be focusing on the most important thing THE MUSIC. Seriously, haven't we all had enough of these idiotic theme nights from zombie bikini bashes and fire breathing to stupid circus sideshows to vagina/cock displays and whatever else they claim to be obscene and extreme? Every single one of these is FAILing more than the one before it. Every time one of these events takes place it pushes more people away that simply want to come out, dance and hear good music with whatever other silliness is scheduled. Is there really a need for the over stimulation of additional elements all the time? This scene's very sadly becoming more about the fashion and the party aspect. The fetish scene seems to want attention for their antics and could care less about the music scene (as clearly evidence by Maiden Detroit at Corktown Festival) whereas the music scene often opens it's doors for these distractions only to get burned as a result.

Bring in live bands

Do old school nights

Do a rave music night without the rave theme. People would dance to early Prodigy, T-99, Alter 8, 808 State, etc..

Do an exclusive Wax Trax, Nettwork, Play it Again Sam or 4ad, Creation, Factory, Mute records, etc... night.

Do a noise night

The music matters most, not the other shit...

It's all good really. I do think regardless of any special events that go on they should open up the ball room for the 30th and 31st , and maybe a 2nd bar? the 700+ people that were there the last couple years made it tough to get drinks or any dancing done at all. Not that I am complaining I love it when a lot of people show , it makes for fantastic energy on the dance floor. Usually I just bump my way around saying "Pardon me. Excuse me". However A little more room wouldn't hurt. As far as themes go...well it's DEVILS night (not fucking Angels night . I hate that.) So...lots of fire if you guys can get away with it. A hell theme.

You know I asked for feedback. And the reason I asked is because I want to help the scene. However, when you make comments that The Collective hinders business or that ideas like the Bikini bash are "idiotic", you are not giving feedback. You are insulting me and the people in the Collective who work very hard to set up shows and throw out some of our own money so DJ's and performers can do various things. It's this kinda of chatter that keeps people away from a scene not various themed nights. As for numbers, are you out there promoting the events that you have been part of or are you stroking your egos? Because let me tell you this gentlemen, no one is that good. We have offered you opportunities to showcase your skills and you insult us on the forum. And for your information, we have actually increased business at CC through our various themed events. I do not need to waste my time dealing with negative comments or insults. I'm asking for feedback because I want to help you out and provide entertainment in the scene. Sybil asks me what we're doing and we set it up. You are then asked to spin or perform for the central electronic/industrial/goth scene here in Detroit. You get free promotion and paid. We may not pay you much but we do what we can. And as Sean would say, Do you really promote the events or do you just tell your few friends to come when you're spinning? Guess what, there are many others out there who respect what we do and that is what I'm not seeing here. We will continue to give opportunities to those who respect what we are doing and make a positive effort to help build the scene and not decimate it with their own negative intentions and or comments. And if you want to discuss this with me in private, I will be at CC tomorrow night celebrating Kat's birthday and meeting with Sybil to make plans for this fall.

Eh, just some constructive criticism and I apologize if it came across as harsh and insulting, wasn't my intention altogether and certainly could(should) have chosen better words . Just offering my perspective and reactions from things people have told me as a result of attending or not attending these events.

Offered up some ideas there you could run with as well.

Appreciate what you do and your endeavers and while some events might not be to everyones liking I tip my hat to you guys for giving it your all and trying.

Again apologies. Feel free to PM me to discuss anything further...

Can I haz your manbabies Saint?

Honestly, as a patron attending a club - if the music sucks cock I am out. I don't care one way or another about the theme nights.

As for the fetish stuff, it's overdone. Bad.

Do something different. Original. Not more of the same. Not more mindless partying. Not more "omg I look soo good in this" stuff that is turning the entire genre into a mire of boring.

One or two good bands with some fresh music that doesn't sound like it's been programed via Atari, well that would cause me to have a joygasm! Sometimes, less is more.

Apology accepted. In the end, I think I might have an idea that will make everyone very happy. I have to run it by Sybil tomorrow night and it should please everyone here.

How would everyone feel if the Ballroom was open on a regular basis as an old school gothic club counterpart to the main CC area? In other words, we can play old school stuff/retro/etc in the Ballroom, add some couches, ambience and have that as a balance to the main CC area were you play industrial new and old/electro/ebm/noise. We could open up the other bar outside the Ballroom to free up congestion and give people in the club more space. We could feature 1-2 bands the last weekend of the month as well. If we drove more traffic through the club, we would be able to bring in better national acts and take care of them. As for the fetish thing, I don't focus Collective events as fetish events. The bikini thing was supposed to be just something for were people could cool off a bit with the summer. I want to create something in the Ballroom like the way the Lab used to be back in the day. It seems that the successful clubs that cater to this scene tend to have something for everyone. I agree that the fetish thing is overdone. However, I don't think there should be objections to girls that want to dress sexy and do their thing on the dance floor. Sexy girls on the dance floor equal guys on the dance floor, equals people get hot and tired and want to drink more which makes the establishment happy. We would need a dedicated sound system in the Ballroom though that would costs us some money. We could do a benefit show to raise money but we're talking something like $2000 unless someone can cut us a deal on a sound system. We could also do a benefit to raise money to continue to fix the CC main pa system which still needs a lot of work as well. I think the fetish scene needs a venue to cater to that sort of thing like Blondies. Now groups that want to do a dance routine is one thing, but no strippers or made in Detroit stuff. Believe me, I share your frustration with what we went through with Corktown. I've spoken to keith before about the Hellbound events but that is something that I think should be done once in a blue moon and usually entails a very high door cover charge. I would do those events in a different venue. But the Ballroom could be a gothic lounge of sorts similar to the Lab or Ascension UK. We could set up a video projector showing goth videos or weird horror movies. The Collective has tried to find our own venue to do such things but it is just too expensive with liquor license issues, insurance, legality issues, safety, etc. CC has been around forever and will continue to be the central hub in Detroit. We need to make the best of it. I will continue to focus my attention on CC only from now on as the Director of the Collective. Thank you all for your support and feedback.

Liking that Ballroom idea. Though, it shouldn't just be an old-school thing - there are actual goth and deathrock bands who are current and new.

If you cats do pull through with that and kinda bring back that Labyrinth vibe I, for one, would sure make it back out to The Leland.

Ok, 100% WIN idea here and would give/get my full support. This would really work well in first providing patrons the opportunity to hear the old school/goth/etc.. that often gets requested and slightly ignored. Second it would free up the DJ's in the main room to focus on the newer material perhaps. Hopefully people who are into the newer ebm-noise-whatever it's called stuff would venture into the ballroom area and be exposed/educated to the history of this music and the old-schoolers in return would venture into the main room to hear where the music is headed. It's options based on music and that's gonna create a good vibe and a good time.

Excellent thinking and please move forward with this idea!

*sigh* let me say this once and for all to get the records straight.

I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT THE COLLECTIVE OR THE FETISH SCENE! (I know they are not one in the same but they were both referenced in this thread).

I have done nothing but appreciate EVERY opportunity that The Collective has given me for DJing, both at Resist and in the ballroom. All I said for the ballroom was the truth, its an echo chamber(it is, thats a fact, not bashing) and needs a lot of work in order to get a good sound. I would LOVE to be a part of that goth lounge idea, I would spin old school batcave and new lo-fi goth all in one night and have a blast. I have always loved showing the Detroit scen about goth/deathrock music.

I know The Collective is trying to help the scene, what I am trying to do is give my feedback from what I have experienced. What im saying is that unless it is a live band, other events really mess up the flow for the dance floor, which is what the DJ's care about. The Bikini Bash thing would have been cool if it were just bikini's with maybe a horror punk/psychobilly music theme, spinning stuff like "The Cramps" and "The Horrorpops". The slip and slide thing would make dancing a little difficult, would you not agree?

Im sorry if people cant understand my opinion, im trying to help and ive already lost an opportunity for trying to do that. I hope people can forgive me and give me another shot behind the decks.

I am only chiming in for the simple reason that it looks like I might be out here for the big H. As I was reading this thread and people were bashing on the S&M scene and having to play music for them for their acts, I can shananagians. I have profromed at many places where they don't change the music and the peeps just did their thing. I know that the spanky scene does bring in lots of PAYING and DRINKING costumers. You can always set it up where all the couchs or have part of the ballroom or have it on the stage and people can dance around the stage. All I know is that where there are half naked girls running around there are always going to be drunk men following...

So in closeing if you are looking to make money and want to get some of the "mainstream" peeps in bring in the spankys. If you don't like it just stay away. The club is about making $$$.

thank you and good night.

no.. I shall not stay away, and I hate the stuff. :p It gets old fairly quickly. Same stuff different people. Yes, clubs want to make money, but they also want to have a regular crowd that will keep attending and not be assholes. Typically when you mix the "mainstream" people with our crowd it's like oil and water.

Actually, people have been going to the club no matter what was going on because its the City Club. Lame night or not, people come anyway. So clubs just want to make their money. They aren't concentrated on what goes on as long as the money is coming. Look at all the different kinds of things City has done and filled the place up. Its even conquered over the other clubs that had the same type of club nights.

So in closing, the club will always have a regular crowd whether the old leaves and the new come in. Don't think that will change unless the club closes.

I have no doubt that if CC figured out they could make more money by switching the a Polka/South African folk theme, they would change in a heartbeat... I don't think CC has "loyalty" to one subculture or another.

Not at all. Just business as usual. Although I think Mike Higgins would LIKE to stick with the current scene. Don't think a Polka scene would work out hunting for him meeting guys lol.
