freydis
Finding more and more bands that are either being classified as Steampunk, or are loved by Steamfolks. This seems to cover styles that range from actual punk, to bubbly cabaret, to electronic stuff with a 'vintage' bent to it.... Post em as you find em. I'll be doing this for the next hour, I have a feeling.... First, Abney Park, of course.
freydis
Dr. Steel! This dude is decidedly more electronic. BUILD THE ROBOTS! TOY SOLDIERS UNITE!

freydis
These guys are actually local to me. Not my favorite of theirs, but the only one that wasn't a live video. Ukelele Loki and The Gadabout Orchestra.
freydis
Unwoman! Reminiscent of Emilie Autumn, but I find her voice a LOT less grating than Emilie's.

freydis
The Clockwork Dolls. I with this track, I find it interesting they're considered steam fandom, because there's not much here that evokes victoriana imagery, dystopian futures, or neverwas history... but hey, they do sound pretty good. freydis
Steam Powered Giraffe. This is a live performance. They're... amusing, odd, and growing on me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6IQBlYPJoE

st_masey
Shouldn't this music only be played on instruments available during the Victorian age? I suppose they could use their electronic variations, but only powered by a small steam engine?

Not necessarily... the steampunk thing, it seems to be more of an ornate and Victorian spin on technology, not necessarily taking place in the past... but if technology had developed in a way that keeps the style of the past. A big part of steam punk are airships, rayguns, mechanical people, etc...
Saint Germain
I think its more a question of appearance than a kind of music.

I love the fact that people can get creative and combine the swing style with electro and industrial sounds. Actually, here's a good example of them crossing all types of genre's: Edited September 12, 2010 by kat
