Well I guess one good thing that could come about it is that they won't try to fly any planes near the mosque since it will be so close by heh. I think 95% of Muslims are great people, and its just the 5% that make them look bad. I totally agree that all religions have their extremists though as I have seen the Catholic church and their ongoings of molestations and tons of other incidents.

I think I heard somewhere as well that this building is to become a cultural center too for not only Muslims, but for everyone to come see and experience the true Muslim religion and history. Don't quote me on that as I don't have the source at this moment.

Wow I missed alot of news being stuck in Basic for 10 weeks. Anyways, what the hell is this bullshit? Considering the location of the proposed building site there are really very few options that could be considered "fitting". There are some that could be sorta neutral...but this Mosque is much too close to being salt in wound even if you don't directly link it to terrorists. So what did they just say "ah fuck it we don't know what else to build here" or was this planned for a while?

Here is a list of better ideas for what to build.

1. Useful buildings

2. A nice park for EVERYONE to enjoy

3. Something that isn't connected to any sort of religion so we can stop bitching already.

4. An anti-religion vortex and pulls you headfirst through your own asshole if you try to build a religious structure there or add elements of other religious from different eras to an argument especially if the standards of the time were much different than the standards we hold today.

Personally I like the vortex idea...

I agree with this. Why in the hell out of all things, would they do this? And if they do want to make it a religious instution why not something non-denominational, or some kind of museum, or at least something neutral.

The bigger question I think we need to ask is, Why the hell would any respecting, mosque want to build in that area in the first place? It is complete disrespect.

What distance, in blocks, should be decided upon as the official distance from a tragedy of a religion that the majority of the population is upset with? This is about 3 blocks which clearly is unacceptable to some... So should it be 6? 10? 15? Or do we do it on a sort of death per block ratio; I mean, roughly 3,000 people died and the mosque is 3 blocks away, so obviously 1000 dead people per block is not right.... so maybe 250 dead = religious services at least 1 block away.... making it a more acceptable 12 blocks from ground zero....

These are all important questions, I am sure....

The point I am trying to make is, people are saying it is "too close" which means there is a "far enough" which means we are trying to quantify a tragedy like 9/11 in physical distance??? this makes almost no sense to me.

I mean this would mean that with all the people who died in the crusades, there probably should not be any churches for hundreds and hundreds of blocks around the middle east. Oh and no American business, goods, or institutions should be anywhere near Hiroshima or Nagasaki... since a lot more civilians were killed in those bombings by the American government... maybe some of the surrounding areas of those Japanese cities, but clearly there are a lot of blocks that need to be between American stuff and where those tragedies happened.

How far should a shrine to the Japanese pilots who bombed Pearl Habor be from the Arazona? If you don't think it's the same thing... please, read about the man who is building this afront.

I was evident from his mannerism as he was speaking that he doesne not personally support it being there. With that in mind I was to make it clear I do not fault him for his public position.

I am very pleased to see, that as opponents of big O, from differing camps, that we can agree, that he did not fuck up this time...

Serious question here. How many places of worship does ANY religion really need? I mean it kinda ties in with me saying that there are better options for what to build in that area. There has to be a perfectly good alternative in the area where they could fit...or some place already built that could be rented or bought. Shit, if you have to go nut to butt just to avoid a bunch of costs and controversy why not do it?

Or how about these people proposing the building build a nice non-religious park that would beautify the area, bring a bit of nature back, and provide a place for homeless people to sleep?

I only have a couple questions. Why the fuck do they want to put a mosque in a commercial area? There's hardly any residences there. And apparently most muslims in the New York area reside in Brooklyn. So why do they want this mosque there? Unless, they're trying to send a message...

What message do you think they are sending?

What message do you think they are sending?

I think it's a slap in the face kind of message. The kind that says "See, we blew your shit up, and now, we're puttin our flag on it, bitch"

That's the way I see it, I dunno, maybe the military in me, but I think it's fucked up.

Could it also be a "look, most of us are not like this, here is an opportunity to know us better so that we can give you a better impression." Type of message? (That's what I assumed it was)

That would have to be more like:

"See, we blew your shit up, and now, we're puttin our flag down the street from there(right near where we already had one), bitch"

Could it also be a "look, most of us are not like this, here is an opportunity to know us better so that we can give you a better impression." Type of message? (That's what I assumed it was)

That's what I felt...

I simply think the whole project is a vulgar display of one big political attention whoring circle jerk if you ask me... The mosque isn't even directly on ground zero, it's getting built a bit away, almost as far as the other mosque already built.. it's getting alot more hype and attention than it honestly needs. Just a fucking dog and pony show to give the public something to yay or nay at instead of asking real questions.
