Energy saving: Right now, I haven't had to turn the heat on. If I do, I usually keep my thermostat set at 65-68 degrees when I'm at home, a little bit lower if I am not home.

Clothes: I buy whatever I can get on sale and when I need it. So far, have only had to buy a few long sleeve shirts for winter.

Food stuff: I buy a bunch of canned goods such as beans, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce when it is on sale. Frozen mixed veggies work great for soup, just throw it in a pot with some broth and whatever cooked meat you like and spices and ya got soup. Gonna start hittin' up Aldi's for meat now because it's cheaper. I make a pot of chili and freeze it in smaller containers to take to work or to have at home because ordering food every night at work is expensive. I buy organic milk because it lasts longer, so does soy milk. Kroger has half-gallon organic milk on sale 2 for 5 bucks, which isn't too bad. I stopped buying that pre-packaged instant oatmeal shit because it's expensive. I made my own apple/cinnamon oatmeal using old-fashioned oatmeal, cinnamon, some splenda and a bit of applesauce and it was awesome. For bean soup, you can buy a big jar of pinto beans already cooked. 1 big jar of pinto beans, a cup or two of water plus some diced ham, ground black pepper and some ketchup and you got dinner for a few nights.

cable/internet: I have basic cable/internet through WOW. It's cheaper than Comcast. I pay about 70 bucks a month.

household stuff: I buy laundry detergent and dishwasher soap at the dollar store, works just as good as the expensive crap that you can get at Kroger or Meijer. Paper products like toilet paper and paper towel, I buy the 10 for $10. Kroger has a value brand that is $0.89 for a 4 roll pack of toilet paper. Household cleaners: go to the dollar store.

Hey Kat, I have become addicted to Aldi. I used to shop there because it was cheaper and shop at Kroger/Costco when I had more money but now I go because I've discovered that they have really great quality. Cereal is my number one purchase there because it's under $2 a box and is far superior to the name brands. My newest favorite thing to buy there is quacamole and kettle sytle tortilla chips, they're awesome. Their Fit N Active ground turkey is great too, I guess I could go on and on.

For internet shopping I use retailmenot.com I NEVER NEVER EVER buy anything online without looking for a promo code first. Every few months Kohls does the 15, 20 or 30% sale, I buy online with my code so I always get 30% off then I have it shipped to my husband's apt in PA because they don't have sales tax on clothing and if the order is over $50-75 shipping is free. I just bought two winter coats for my kids (one was an adult zeroxposure coat) for under $90 total shipped to his front door.

I won't be able to ship stuff to PA anymore though because my husband just landed his Dream Job back here in MI and will be moving home in one week!!! Yay!

I went to Aldi's yesterday, bought their packaged FitnActive ground turkey and lean beef. Was not as expensive as the stuff I get at Kroger. I bought some pasta, marinara sauce, canned tomatoes, beans, chips. french onion dip and rice cakes. Spent about 20 bucks, which isn't too bad. I still will have to go to Kroger for certain things like their store brand high protein yogurt which is always on sale for 3 for 1 dollar. Gonna run by Sav a lot's today and check it out to compare to Aldi's.

I think Save A Lot is much better than Aldi. They carry some of the name brands at cheaper prices than Meijer or Kroger, and I just think what they have is better quality and tastes better. I don't buy meat (vegetarian) and I am really picky about my fresh fruits and vegetables, so I rarely buy perishables there, but they're good for non-perishables.

When I first lost my job my dad took me to Aldi's to get us a month worth of groceries, and we ended up not eating half of it because it tasted weird. It's okay for stuff like noodles or canned tomatoes that you just cook with, but most of the stuff we got like canned soups and vegetables, boxed potatoes, cereal, etc. we ended up donating.

I actually prefer Aldi to SavAlot. I was only in SavAlot once but I smelled a weird mold smell when I walked in so I walked back out an never went back.

There are some things from Aldi that I don't like as much as kroger, produce is one of them (depends though sometimes the produce looks great). Aldi has the meat packaged so that you can see it at the one I go to. The only thing I absolutely would not buy at Aldi is dog food because I have spoiled dogs who can only eat their specialty food.

Between Aldi's and SavAlot, I spent about 35 bucks. Got a bunch of canned tomato sauce for about 55 or 59 cents per can, can't remember exactly. They actually had Silk Soy milk there but not the kind that I prefer so I'm gonna have to split shopping between their and Kroger because Kroger has the only yogurt I will eat and their soy milk and organic milk is usually on sale. Oh, I got eggs for 79 cents a dozen at SavAlot, that's not too bad.
