torn asunder
Cell phone time traveler from 1928? seems like there should be a reasonable explanation, but man, it looks pretty convincing, doesn't it? check out the video at the bottom of the page... Scar My Machine
I will admit that it looks compelling, intriguing and that it does in fact look like someone that is using a cell phone. Of course one has to realize there were no satellites or cell phone towers back in 1928 but then again, if that person was a "time traveler" one could argue they were talking to someone connected to the "project" and relaying information back (or would it be forward) and they just happen to have walked unknowingly (or knowingly) in front of a camera. I am baffled by what the film shows. Even if it weren't a time traveler then what the hell is that person doing walking with their hand in that position? torn asunder
thing that gets me is that, when she turns & you can see her talking, if you look closely, the shadow cast near the bottom of her hand has a distinct sharp edge/corner... i've heard a suggestion for a hearing aide, but there's no one around to whom she's talking!? Scar My Machine
Yes it could be argued that they are holding a hearing aid but there is no on around for them to be talking with. It seems there are very few plausible explanations that our minds would accept. They could be.... A lunatic talking to themselves.(possible) A time traveler. (could be possible) A prankster. (very doubtful) A very advanced inventor toying with the idea of a portable phone device for future use. (highly doubtful) After that, I'm stumped. TitsMcGee
It's a silent movie set..Lord knows how much talking actually happened while they were filming. She could have been talking to someone offset like the director.

She could have been talking to someone offset like the director. actually, no it's not - from what i've read, it's film shot at the premiere of the film, not actual movie footage. indie filmmaker George Clarke (“Battle of the Bone”) has noticed a person seemingly talking on a cellphone at the 1928 premiere of Charlie Chaplin’s “The Circus.” Edited October 26, 2010 by torn asunder double-checking my statement... Well than I stand corrected, but still time travel sounds a bit far fetched to me. Especially since a cell phone wouldn't work in 1928. It could be just the run of the mill crazy person, or the hearing aid idea is plausible because some people like to hear themselves talk.

Scar My Machine
Maybe they didn't want the camera guy to read their thoughts so they were merely shielding that side of their brain to keep "them" out. Hmmmmmm, maybe it's just some old kook that was trying to hide their face. It could be many things or just nothing at all.
kat (1)
To me, it looks like a hoax. It looks like she was edited into the video. It seems that she does not quite fit into the rest of the scenery.

phee
I have a better theory.... Chaplin time traveled to the future where he shot the movie... he brought the sets and costumes and actors through, only to be disappointed about seeing his mustache being shown on so many protest signs... And some lady bought a Sprint phone.

phee
Time travel, IS possible...scientists decided... Yep.... in a way we are doing it all the time already. They have also figured out that it is much easier to go forward in time than backward.

Makes it easier to get through the b.s. that life throws at ya.

Destroit
Something else to consider, did they have CB Radios and/or Walkie-Talkies back then? I guess I'm ignorant to whether they did or not or how readily available they were. Something else to take into consideration. TheGimp
i concor i think i watched that there special all you boys watched on that picutre box you boys and gals call a TV and they said time travel is indeed possible theres just certian things you would be unable to do, because it would cause a paradox...like going back in time and killing you're biological father....;-)

The first radio receiver/transmitter to be nicknamed "Walkie-Talkie" was the backpacked Motorola SCR-300, created by an engineering team in 1940 at the Galvin Manufacturing Company (forerunner of Motorola). The team consisted of Dan Noble, who conceived of the design using FM technology, Henryk Magnuski who was the principal RF engineer, Bill Vogel, Lloyd Morris, and Marion Bond. Motorola produced the hand-held AM SCR-536 radio as well during the war. It was called the "Handie-Talkie" (HT). Al Gross is sometimes said to have invented it. He also worked on the early technology behind the device from 1934 to 1941. Well, I feel that answers the question.
Gaf The Horse With Tears
It might be a hearing aide. At the time a hearing aide consited of a box that could fit in the hand with the ampliphire in it connected to an ear mold with a tube.
