Joy Division US TOUR

NO One should give a penny in support of this. It just seems like such a money grab. Hook has been living off of Curtis' blood money for a long time, even admitting to forging and selling Ian's autograph (http://www.clashmusic.com/news/peter-hook-admits-forgery). That says volumes alone right there.

Hooks argument that he's doing this tour in memory of Ian and Hooks own greatest musical achievement should be shared by ALL those who assisted in making Joy Divisions music what it was. Why is it only Hook is interested in Joy Division and not his former band members? Maybe because Bernard and Stephan don't want to tarnish the legacy of one of the most influential bands in history by doing it half-assed? Who's to say.

Would fully endorse a New Order tour with Joy Division classics thrown in (as they were known to do) or even a "Joy Division:Remembered" tour, but ONLY with those other founding members Bernard and Stephen onboard. I really think the three of them could do it right and pay proper homage to one of the greatest frontmen ever. And Hooks only doing vocals??? Not playing Bass and also handling vocal duties too!!!!

Ian's probably rolling in his grave right about now. Damn shame as Hooky is a tremendously talented bass player (check out Revenge, Monaco, Freebass).

Please Peter Hook, quit being so selfish...

Since there are NO original members besides him, yeah I think he's probably just grabbing for money. There are some bands that have had a member died and have not only come back, but for the better (Skinny Puppy comes to mind), but when he's just popping up so many years later pushing for a tour when no other original Joy Division members are on-board (and in the case of Curtis, dead of course), I can't really get behind it.

I LOVE Unknown Pleasures, but fuck this tour. One member???

And he's not even playing bass??? Why the fuck am I going to see Joy Division's and NOT see him play bass??

I have a lot of JD stufff including live material of NO playing some JD stuff, so the whole 'We've never paid tribute' is garbage.

Oh, and it sucked too! Because when you have deep, morose, dark, twisted, paioned lyrics, you don't want to hear it being sung in the same voice as this song.

And I like that song. But I don't want to hear She's Lost Control sung poppy.

I understand that it's not Bernard Sumner singing on this tour, but I still can't imagine this going off right.

Oh, and back to that whole "New Order never celebrated anything to do with Joy Division."

REALLY??

Then WTF was this----

"The criticism has been aimed at me, saying I'm cashing in on Joy Division and Ian Curtis," Hook tells SPIN. "But it took 30 years to cash in. So does that count? Usually you cash in after waiting 30 minutes."

There was nothing to "cash in" on back in 1980. Joy Division's legacy and influence has been recognized more in the last 10+ years than in any other time. With the release of "Control" and some compilations during the past few years, there is no time like the present to max out on a pay day. Seems pretty lame.

Bah! Even if Ian Curtis were alive an well and going on this tour, they're still missing Martin Hannett.

He was only the producer (one of the all time greats), not a member of the band. Even though he could play bass, he never shared the stage with them at any point and even if a new Joy Division album were recorded (which would be a blasphemy) they wouldn't need him then either. Bands switch producers all the time. Your comment makes no sense at all.

I purchased the Heart and Soul Joy Division boxed set this year at a fine price. Trust me, the guy is cashing in well enough.

Oh look, even more money grabbing from Mr. Hook

Hook has announced plans to record a new(!!!) EP of Joy Division songs, a collection that will feature re-recordings of Unknown Pleasures’ “Insight” and “New Dawn Fades,” plus 1980 single “Atmosphere.” The set also will include the debut release of “Pictures,” an unfinished 1978 track.

But here's the kicker... it won't be with Stephen Morris and Bernard Summer (Joy Divisions other surviving members)!!!! Instead it will be with the band (The Light) he's touring with for this shameful "Joy Division" tour...

This from an online music blog interview:

EYEBALLS: Speaking of making new music, do you have any plans to make a full album with your current band, The Light?

HOOK: We’re going to do something with Rowetta, our singer who we use in England, who worked with Happy Mondays. She wants us to record an EP of the four (Joy Division songs) that she sings, which are “Insight,” “New Dawn Fades,” “Atmosphere” and a track called “Pictures” that I finished up, which is an old Joy Division track. So we’re going to do an EP of that, just because the versions of the songs with Rowetta singing have a really nice quality....

Say what?!!! Female vocals in place of Ian's??? Doesn't seem right does it?

Starting to lose respect for Mr. Hook.

If Hooky keeps going like this, we will have to award him the title of grave-robber. Rehashing the past is one thing, but excluding those who helped to make it happen so you can turn it into a festering sore in the form of a "comeback tour" (and release, apparently) for your own financial and reputational gain speaks volumes about just how far down the hole this bass player has fallen.

No thanks. I'd prefer to keep the legend of Joy Division in the past. It ended in 1980 and without Ian Curtis, it will never be the same again even if it is brought back in any form.

I thought no one could top the Jello-free DKs for crass ca$h grabs.

I was wrong.

D:

Hmm, this one was a tough one for me as I actively followed the falling out between Jello and his fellow band mates to a point where I had found out that Jello had been screwing them out of money then lying about what was really going on (including lies about how he wasn't getting paid for the re-releases of the catalog on another record label, which turned out to not be true). Yes, they did the reunion tour without Jello, but A.) there was a lot of bad blood between them which would have prevented a proper tour, and B.) Jello has stated he never intended on nor was interest in doing a reunion tour. I realize that the rest of the members simply did not feel the same way and felt that they could do this tour without Jello (that and technically, the Dead Kennedys was formed and is owned by East Bay Ray, although all decisions about what happens to the band are made democratically). I did not go, because at the time I was still under the impression Jello was telling the whole truth, and I would have rather seen DK with Jello than without. I guess what I am getting at is that there really is no comparison to what Hook is doing and what DK did. Hook is banking on a legacy of a band, kind of like Jerry Only continuing to put out Misfits records despite being the only member left in the band, whereas the other 3 members of DK seemed to be touring to reinforce their legacy.
