Respect for idiots spewing about Science / Religion / Politics etc

Was pondering the universe in my usual manner, and I realized i have a sort of grudging respect for people that I totally disagree with, not because I think their "points" are wrong those people i clearly tend to respect. But, even the people that generally just spew out (mostly) nonsense about politics / religion / science / etc. are what I'm referring to. Why would I have this sort of respect for such mediocrity? Because they CARE enough to even discuss such subjects. So many are so deeply entrenched in the Cult of the Entertainer and the Cult of Gossip that they care nothing other than partying or other fluff. Don't get me wrong, I love me some fluff, but there is more (and more interesting and important) things to life. They might just take a bit more "work" to understand/enjoy. "What we attain too cheaply we esteem too lightly."

These people might piss me off, but at least they piss me off and really my gut tells me that i DONT respect such nonsense. But honestly, at least it is about something "REAL", not some random meaningless nonsense argument about some entertainment or relationship gossip. Odd realization for me.

Unfortunately even people with less-than-sound judgment on such subjects are frighteningly few and far between in the population as far as I can tell.

I was thinking about this subject after one my friend's had gotten upset at me for getting "preachy" (her idea of getting preachy was discussing something that she is not directly involved in) It made me think, you know, at least, have some kind of opinion about something, rather it be that I agree with you or not is not the point, I respect the fact that people actually think about something bigger than themselves because those are the people that realize the world is much bigger and more significant then me and you.

How dare you try to make some point about something that doesn't directly affect someone's personal center-of-the universe life! Omg! Bad!

I know, Troy, I just, I couldn't resist the urge to try and bring to this woman's attention how we are nothing but a mere parasite in connection to this universe, and if we started to look at this concept than maybe putting an end to all our personal drama would be possible and than, maybe, well, just maybe, we could look at the bigger concept of the world and start to unravel the hell that we have created as humankind...

but, they all just wanted to watch the TV instead..

99% of the people make me want to club them in their head to jump start the critical thinking and stop the parroting what their mass media masters have told them.

But I know it will only solve half the problem.

Now it isn't so bad when they appear to spew bull that they came up with on their own, it is a start.
