Simon Bar Sinister
this is a county-by-county map of diabetes...population density? whatever - you get the picture. dark reds = highest rate, white = lowest rate. pretty much seems to run concurrently with the bible belt. hmmm... Destroit
Southern food has almost inherently been the most fattening style food, so it's no surprise to me. There is a fairly skewed view of weight down there, I've heard of people being of a normal medically healthy weight that will be gawked at in places of the south and bible belt for being "too thin". If I only heard this from one or two people, that would be one thing, but I've heard it from more people than I could count on all of my digits, hands and toes. It must be something that is culturally ingrained into the people of the area, I suppose. I'm sure not everyone living in those areas is like that obviously, but there seems to be a significantly higher amount than other areas of the country. candyman
Yeah after being on a diet with more southern food in it I can say for certain that it is much different than in the north. They also have a different taste in drink down here too. If the medical society is right about certain foods and other stuff then I am going to say that the diet is a large factor...maybe the high density low income areas are hit harder too? And why is it that if there is any association with something bad and a Christian being close people blame it on them? Just like to bitch? One massive axe to grind? Love kicking dead horses even long after the body has decayed? You are just about as "bad" as some of them is you lump them all into one group and blame something bad on their actions...nice. the eternal
2 things-- Anyone notice that dark red spot on the lower east coast of Michigan. Oh yeah. Diabetes? Detroit's got it! Imported from America. Also, the Bible belt is just a term for some of the Southern states. It's a term of pride there, as in they like Christianity, and it's an easy way to summarize those states. Old Jews talk about the "Borscht Belt" which is where all the Jewish comics would entertain in New York before they got big.
