XXmollyslips
Somebody had to bring it up Movement 2011 is fast approaching. Are you going? One day or three? Passing this year? Anybody volunteering? Got a festival story to share? Excited to see any DJ's in particular? Are you getting a room downtown, where? Anybody still get excited about it? Or do you just wanna bitch about this year's line up or cost? Reminisce about the old days? Well here's the place to do it. Let the annual DEMF conversation (/complaining) begin! http://www.paxahau.com/festival/index1.php/

Simon Bar Sinister
Somebody had to bring it up http://www.paxahau.com/festival/index1.php/ somebody did: http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?showtopic=34956 I love that Richie Hawtin is pretty much curating a stage for a day, and I've never seen Goldie. Lots of other cool people as well...but that Fatboy Slim headlining slot reeks of cheez.
XXmollyslips
XD Sorry, I searched around but looks like I missed it. My bad :( Agreed about Fatboy slim but still kinda excited about it too. I like cheezy.
Destroit
No artists/DJ's that I care for this year Same. There's actually some stuff Felix Da Housecat has done that I love, if anything for the sake of nostalgia even, but for the most part there's not a lot on the lineup this year I dig. I DO love Richie Hawtin also, especially his Plastikman shit, brings me back to Corner Kid days. When it was free I dug all of it just fine, but not for the wallet-invasive pricing they tend to have now. Still not going to be that much for two artists I like. Same. XXmollyslips
Well I bought my tix in January when they were only $40 for a weekend pass. Which is really not bad at all for a three day oontz festival in the heart of the city I am (for some reason) in love with. I just hope the weather is decent this year. Last year it stormed and on Monday they had to shut it down for some time. So we ended up spending a lot of time watching cable in our pajamas at the hotel- fucking weak. *Fun Fact* The Motor City Pride Fest has moved from a 1 day street fair in Ferndale to a full on 2 day festival at Hart Plaza the weekend after DEMF. Shits gonna be nuts and I'm super psyched.
Simon Bar Sinister
I got down there about 6 PM on Monday evening last year; it was still raining. you and yours should've come down - everyone was dancing in the rain, just like the first 3 years. it was so much fun. :D I've gotta check the Pride Fest lineup - see if any of my musician friends are playing this year. DJ Saint
Ventian Snares is worth seeing... stylistically much different than the 'normal' DEMF fare. He's played smaller venues in Detroit (labyrinth), would be interesting to see the stunned reaction on ravers faces if he dipped into anything from his noisy stuff but his style is versatile enough to adjust and appeal to whatever crowd he is playing for. Adam Beyer has put out some great stuff via his drum code label. Some of his material almost borders on Niter Ebb like EBM or the techno body music stylings. Sven Vath has the potential to bring it. Lots of good tracks (most memorable are collabs with Anthony Rother). Some tracks remind me of episodes of Sprockets. I'll betcha if someone kicked him in the nuts before taking stage (thus making him angry) his performance would be angst-filled and legendary. Seems Ibiza has softened his sound even a bit more? and Transversable Wormhole is another moniker of Adam-X who has himself some roots in industrial (most recently with his State of Limbo cd on Rustblade) Also I am saddened that no one started the rumor VNV Nation is playing this years fest. This years lineup is decent. There could (should?) be even more diversity. Please bring any of the artist on Third Movement like Outside Agency, Manu Le Malin, Promo or Lenny Dee and the place would go insane. You think they talked a lot about the 67 Detroit riots???!!!! Last time I went was to see Anthony Rother destroy Hart Plaza. Loved his set but the crowd was too much and the smell of pot everywhere even worse. Much more curious about after parties and such as I'm sure there will be some late night parties of note. For those of you that do go, let's see some write ups on the artist you liked or who surprised you with their performance as well as anything else noteworthy. Enjoy! BloodCupcake
I don't follow electronica closely enough yet to know any certain DJ's really but I DO know Skrillex and I DO wanna see him. BUT DEMF just HAS to be the same weekend as my family reunion and my dad will throw a fit if I don't go. I wanna find someway to still go.

Jace our Pride Friday DJ is the entertainment director for the event he's booking people on a daily basis at this point. The line-up is really looking tight for it. Plus it's FREE DEMF then Pridefest 2 great weekends to be in Detroit

Glory13666
I don't know a lot of the DJs but I do want to go. I went several years ago when it was free and when it was $10 but I haven't been since then. I remember it was really fun even though I didn't know who the DJs were then either. Can anybody recommend which day would be the best to go... assuming that the weather is the same for each day.
Simon Bar Sinister
^ as the hour-by-hour schedule hasn't been released yet, I can only give my general impressions. I have gone every year, and this is what I've noticed: Saturday - the freak show. if people watching is why you're going, this is the day. Sunday - most intense. DJs seem to be hitting just a little bit harder, and the crowds respond in kind. Monday - a bit more mellow than the other two. probably the most purely fun day each year. Destroit
radio reports said the shit was laced with PCP, so fuck 'em. If you DON'T expect your E to be laced with any of the following: PCP, heroin, probably meth somehow, fertilizer, napalm, industrial by-products, meat by-products, semen and sometimes vanilla, then you don't take the stuff! No that stuff is so crazy because you never know what you're getting. Sometimes you can tell by eyeballing it, but that's still not always fool proof. Like for instance, you know it has a shit-ton of heroin if you can see a lot of brown blotches and flakes. Almost ALL E has a certain amount of heroin in it, it's nearly impossible to get pure MDMA, I'm actually sure it's in powder form if you do if I'm remembering right. I've personally never touched the stuff, but I will say people are pretty hilarious when they're on it and they start touching your face and petting your hair. Doesn't seem like it would be a substance to my preferences, so I never bothered.
