For years I've been told "you need to make the donations more visible / organize it more etc" You'll notice there is a donations panel over on the right hand side of the screen. It works, its a "secure donation" (and DGN is broke as usual so feel free to donate)but, one thing it doesn't do is track the "subscription" donations, just the one-time donations.

Not that there is even enough money coming in at the moment to pay the monthly fees but , we do have some nice people donating a little money. I'm afraid that the donation tracking system just looks messy. Not sure if we should keep it, edit it or what or not.

What I did was set the monthly goals to half of what they usually are for the new "donaton tracker" system (which again only tracks one-time donations) and left the other half for our usual, subscption donations. (see pinned topic).

The whole thing is very frustrating, if i was still working I'd just pay for the whole thing myself like I did in the past most months and not worry about it.

Alas I have no paypal because it doesn't work with my card...otherwise part of my bonus might keep you afloat for a little while

Really? There is something paypal doesn't take? I though they took almost anything, bottles, used body parts , etc. Kind thought though.

Still not sure if I want to keep it, seems a bit ... like begging, which I HATE. Although not asking hasnt seemed to work so far. Despite that I'm still messing with the features / back end of how it works regardless though, don't want to throw it out just yet.

I personally say keep it. It reminds people that DGN isn't free to run, and over the years various members have told me they would be more motivated to donate if the funds were clear-cut as to what is needed, and if there were a place to see exactly how much has, or is being, donated in a month.

I never consider it in poor taste or "begging" when a non-profit organization that provides a specific service to a community asks for funds.

One problem with it is that it will only track one-time donations, which isn't so bad, as the Supporter and Benefactor things have always been meant to be "consistent" funds (as one-time donations are unreliable on a small scale like this) and the money from benefactors or supporters regular donations cant be tracked by it (not yet anyway, apparently thats a feature that is hard to code and its something that is in the works). But, there is always some "unforseen" cost, such as when we need to add something new that isn't free, or we have some huge, temporary spike in bandwidth, or (in ye olden days and hopefully in the future) we need more money than the people running an actual DGN event can afford to foot the bill for and a million other things that having a "DGN Reserve Fund" would be useful for (although we rarely every have had enough donations to do that).

Maybe, with the supporter/benefactor donations and the one-time donations being seperate, it will work out, even though that wasn't the intention. I can see confusion about how it works in the future though as to what the difference between an "automatic subscription" donation is (supporter/benefactor basicly) or just one-off donations that are tracked by the donation tracker is.

It is a military star card meant to help me out on post so...yeah I guess they don't take those. Stupid cards...for starters I was just going to finish off the $40 goal but shit I gotta find another way. Maybe if I stuff dollars into my magical USB3 port because it seems to be magically talented...

Keep it man...more people will donate that way. For instance people like me but instead of not being able to donate they will because they can use paypal.

Ah. Yeah maybe they don't take it becasue they have no way to know what your spending it on. Thanks for the moral support though, seriously.

More I think about it, whats it hurting? people having to look at a few extra graphics? Plus its a hell of a lot easier to "see" what it it is we need , for joe-user plus, I can add new , visible goals if we need money for something else (for instance right now some money for DGN cards would be nice but I'm going to hold off on that, if we actually meet these goals, the (tiny) amount of money from the few supporters that are active (a lot of them are "legacy" supporters that dont actually donate anything now, but did at some time inthe past) will hopefully add up to be enough to buy some new cards.
