...the important part for non-New Yorkers is that NY doesn't have a residency requirement to get a marriage license, so if you're part of a same-sex couple or know one, you/they can go there and get married.

Thirty days after Gov. Cuomo sings it into law, that is.

anyway, that's what I got.

Very close vote. (also who knows what insanity the opposition could randomly pull out of their hats). Since I was a teenager I've been assuming that this would be inevitable nation wide, but its sure taking a long time.

Same sex marriage is still "banned" in 40+ states and has an odd sort of "marriage is recognized but not granted" or same sex "unions" but not "marriage".

The U.S. Government itself doesn't recognize same-sex marriages at all.

Until 2003 even same-sex sexual acts were ILLEGAL in Michigan ... 2003 no really. :X

In Michigan not only is there not same sex marriage but in 2004 they actually passed a law going out of its way to BAN same sex marriage, along with the vast majority of all states.

Reminds me of the civil rights movement in the 60s (only a lot less violent) its coming, its inevitable, but conservatives aren't going quietly.
