Going to CC next Saturday for First Time...

Recommended Posts

Overall it's okay. The music tends to be the same a lot which isn't necissarily bad though. Often it is either almost empty at opening and towards about midnight will begin to fill up. If you plan to stay the whole night get there early for a good parking spot in the fenced in area since it's the closest. It tends to get very hot especially when packed with people. There is a coat check in place if you want to wear layers. The decor is interesting and I suggest running your hand on the seat before sitting down...just in case. Most of the workers at CC are pretty helpful, the bouncers pretty much don't take any shit from what I can tell, and when they say move out of the way I suggest you make sure you move. Some people will talk, but very few will start a conversation with you, unless they know you from DGN or somewhere else. I would suggest checking under nightlife and events on here to see if this saturday is an official DGN night. If so then your more likely to find people to talk to. And if you don't get to talk to anyone it's still fun to just go dance or to watch people. :p

Okay just realized you said next saturday lol. I know this Saturday is a DGN night. Not sure if next saturday is or not. Although I do know next weekend is Manfest so a lot of DGNer's will be gone camping for that. Just thought I would add that lol.

Just don't get your hopes up about the club itself and you'll do fine. My joy comes from seeing DGNers. I would say I'd be there, but the boyfriend and I are hosting the biggest event that DGN has to offer on that same weekend...so let me apologize ahead of time for the fact that nobody will be at CC when you go, we stole them :tongue:.

Every Saturday is a DGN night, but yes, most likely a huge amount of people will be missing because we'll all be in Brighton (including yourself, young MANTESTANT :unworthy:).

You can always switch plans though, you know .

Seriously I'm going to donkey punch cher right now... BRB.

ok back...

The dgner count probably will be a little low due to manfast, although only maybe 20% of the active DGNers are also DGN Night people anyhow so the overlap between the two isnt much we (DGN) are sort of in a "regrowing" stage at the moment (had a long period of low activity due mainly to a few slackers (myself being the king slacker).

Tyger! Badgirl ! "Nobody before midnight" PFFFT! I'm there before midnight, I mean comon I gotta count at least as half of a person. I try to get "in the area" by like 10:30 or at LEAST by 11:30 (doesn't always happen) so i can have the troy pre-party , which consists of me trying to chill out and drinking er.. fresh spring water and boring whoever is in the boat with my ramblings for a half hour. Then my goal is to get in the door by 11:30. Slowest night i ever saw there was already at least 10 people there before I got there (and i'm talking about practically busting the door down the moment they opened.

Can only talk to what, 3 people at a time at most anyhow. :)

Just don't build it up as the end-all be-all , its just a building , a run-down building at that.. which you can think of it as being character. =P like everywhere else the people are the important part.

The only trick to it is were the entrance is since its unmarked, but once you get to the Leland building , the mass of cars is a big tip off. Feel free to text/call me if you have trouble (number listed in the DGN Night thread)

This is the entrance to the hotel but not the etrance to CC

The Entrance to CC is here:

You can park in the gated lot (suggested) but if its full, or if your broke (like myself) parking here is ok too.

Thanks for all of the info, everyone! Its my first time at a club for something other than a concert, so I'm pretty stoked. I should've realized beforehand that its Manfest, though. XD Might reschedule, might not. But it definitely won't be my last time going. Also Troy, if you will be there, a friend of mine is coming along with his MtG deck... Just so you know. lol

where are those tomb stones located I've never seen them before

If you check my gallery profile you'll see many pictures from areas that are either 1. not there any more or 2. "illegal" areas that are not accessible by any legitimate means. Don't try this at home, you'll end up banned potentially. There are a lot of "blocked off" or "forgotten" spaces in the Leland. That particular picture is maybe(?) 8(?) years old (can't remember the guy that used to do the artwork, although there have been several over the years) nor exactly where that is/was. At least some of the artwork burried in the bowels of the building is got to be at least 30+ years old, the building itself is over 80 years old and some of the broken-down-ruins inside remain. (although the "gothy" looking stuff is not).

Didn't I even say the other night when you and everyone else was at our house that the Leland is an urban explorer's wet-dream because it's the only non-abandoned building in Detroit (if you can call it non-abandoned ) that has like four-five abandoned buildings inside of it?

Hey, it's not my fault our event gets more DGN pull than CC.

I will say there's a reason it does, but it was unintentional on our behalf; we meant CC no harm. CC was merely a victim of our aggressively coincidental event planning .

And another group of people love it.

Tourist jocks maybe.... I'm now going to be a CC a lot, I went Friday. My goal is to recruit people to DGN so that they can go to better goth nights .

To its defense, and I tell people this all the time...CC was TERRIBLE about 4-5 years ago. They've really been improving the place physically, and trying to foster an environment that caters more toward actual goths/rivetheads rather than the preps-in-goth-clothing types.

Actually having just been there last night, that particular picture is from an easily accessible (and view able) area, no quasi illegal activities necessary. they just up the second flight stairs (rather than walking in the door of the club at the top of the first flight of stairs)

As for the music. Heck I can remember people saying The Sisters of Mercy sucked because they were too electronic and used a OMFG DRUM MACHINE. die scum die die diiiiiiiieee. Seriously? I'm a big music nerd as much as most other people but, get a sense of proportion, this isn't arms control or world hunger we are talking about.

DON'T get me wrong I wish the "busy" clubs played more traditional stuff and/or traditional sounding new but it is what it is. But for the record I LIKE EBM, its just one of 100 different genres I like. Its not my favorite, but i defiently like it, a few key songs I can think of are near and dear to me.

Unfortunately they (City Club)are weird and play what people request (generally) and tastes, unfortunately for some don't lean toward rock/punk but toward dancy sounding stuff, at a dance club, crazy as that sounds. (yes I know you can dance to anything, so can I , and did (and do) all the time) :gathering:

Although I have noticed a slightly more rock-esque bent to the playlists.

If there was a mass-push of requests for either 1. oldschool deathrock/darkwave/post-punk or 2. new music with similar sound, the playlists would change accordingly. Unfortunately , I know of no such large-scale desire , even though I personally wouldn't mind hearing more rock/punk/newwaveish themed stuff.

The "cc music debate" was apparently already old the day I walked into the place 15(?) ish years ago, I remember someone saying "they don't play the good stuff like they did in the good old days" (rolls eyes) and this was after me standing and listening to Souxie, Sisters, Christian Death, Bauhaus, Specimen ,This Mortal Coil and Fields of the Nephilim and thinking how good it was. (alhtough I would not have known them by name at the time).

I somehow like music (full stop) not just a few particular types of music. And I have access to all the worlds music at home any time and can go other places, I can listen to a few particular types of music in one geographic location for a few hours a week and go to other locations for other types of music.

Its really not encouraging people to go to listen to (or help promote) DJs /music at other nights that are dumping on nights they already go to EVERY POST, its also making people not want to post/read at all on DGN, nor read posts by said promoters due to the constant negativity (yes really). FIVE TIMES I heard complaints about the promoters of club nights last night, and how they are rude / insulting, that does not help us promote the scene, it hurts us.

The TOS we agreed to when we signed up for DGN is there for a reason. You get way more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. I got it already, I was saying similar things a decade ago, but things are they way they are, negativity every other post doesn't help anything.

Its not that there is anything wrong with nerd raging against a particular kind of music/venue but every dang post gets old and is honestly counterproductive to the goals of the posters doing the complaining. Shitting were you eat doesn't work that well, that is, alienating the types of people that would otherwise be open to suggestion if it wasn't coming from a base of constant (perceived) negativity.

Believe me I'm trying to help everybody (anyone notice the whole theme of the board?), hell spend 40 hours a week trying to help, but I need some help too. Just turn up the brain-to-keyboard filter a little please. DGN is meant in the context of a certain level of civility toward others desires/opinions, its not myspace, by design.

If you just take a few steps up there is other stuff up there, which, you might get backhanded for peeking at (unlikely) but doesnt take any "Urban exploration" type activities to see. and when i say a few steps up i mean like one or two, dont walk up there, that might actually get you booted. Bad idea.
