How to make teh holidays more Goth-y

Recommended Posts

I was outside earlier today and looking around at the neighbor's houses and was thinking that instead of wrapping my door in <insert bright Christmas colour> wrapping paper, wouldn't it be cool to do it in black instead? heh heh

What things, within reason and actual do-ability, would you do to "de-spruce" your home/living place?

Yes I leave my Halloween decorations up and I have purple icicle lights in the windows. Makes a nice contrast to the neighbor’s happy little snowmen and light up reindeer. This year though I think I’m going to have to order screwed up wrapping paper and get black garland for my crappy little tree. I’ve already got a black and red theme going.

Not necessarily "goth", but I used to wrap my presents in a theme. The year the Batman movie came out, all the men got presents wrapped in shiny black paper that looked like patent leather, with metallic gold bows (Batman), and the women got purple-on-purple plaid foil wrap with green metallic bows (Joker). To stick on each package, I made photocopies of a picture of Jack Nicholson as the Joker, hand-colored them, included a riddle, the answer of which was the present inside the box (more suited to the Riddler, I know, but that movie wasn't out yet.) .

You could be like us and not put up anything at all. Frankly, we're too busy with overtime & Ebay auctions aimed toward moving the hell out of this state to decorate. Not to mention, our living room is so tiny, there literally is NO ROOM for a tree. Not bah-humbugging it, just don't feel like the effort this year.

Another suggestion - gear your decor around the Pagan Yule holiday instead of CHRISTmas. Look up appropriate symbolism & color-themes on the web.

Crawl under a rock and die because thats the only way you can get away from this god forsaken holiday....

oh wait, you want a goth christmas.

yeah first watch "The Nightmare Before Christmas" again for tips.

Black as a base color is a must, it's not evil nor is it good. It's just a dark empy void that consumes all.

Next, go with Red and Green since those are christmas colors and they go very well togeather. Silver and Gold are nice as alternatives. Or just throw in Orange and go for the Halloween look.

Not that I know much about christmas decorations but then again I don't need to.
