Compliments

I had a few girls tell me I was pretty at City Club. This was a few years ago, when I was doing full-on punk/goth (crimped hair, extreme make-up, elaborate get-ups). Being a straight chick, I found that the ultimate compliment.

The look on Jon's face when he first saw me in my wedding dress as I walked towards him by the waterfall at our wedding ceremony.

My father once complimented me on my writing. But he said this to my sister, not me. So it's a bittersweet compliment.

A blind date told me I had really nice, white teeth. ROFLMAO

A standing ovation when I performed at the first Earthfest. And skinheads slam dancing to my acoustic "save the earth" song.

Other performers & audience members telling me they want to see me perform more when I did open mic nights at Union Street in Traverse City.

A semi-famous Detroit poster artist, upon hearing a demo take from my shortlived band, telling me he didn't know about the other guys, but that if I wanted any help getting to industry insiders, I'd have a career in front of me. (regrets, I have a few...)

A couple guitarist for whom I did vocals on their demos: I submitted my demo, but all they wanted to know is, "who's the chick with the great voice?"

Sigh. Sometimes it hurts, more than it helps, remembering stuff like this.

I've had 2 really BIG doozies ..at least to me...

Some folks used to say I looked like CLEOPATRA

The orifinal DOLEMITE said I was "...the spitting image of Yvonne DeCarlo a.k.a. L:ily Munster...and then kissed my hand!

I wanted to cry...

"You remind me, in a good way, of the green-haired ex-girlfriend who gave me herpes."

Somebody seriously said that to me, and while it would have been a total "what the fuck?" from somebody else, it seemed right coming from him.

Reminds me...

One of the best compliments Jon ever got:

Jon and me are walking on the beach. We walk by some girls sunning themselves, and I think I hear something, but I'm not sure, so I let it go.

Jon says to me: Did you hear what that girl said?

Me: I thought she said something, but I wasn't sure. Did she say you were hot?

Jon: Yeah, she said, 'your boyfriend's hot'.

Me: I thought so, I wasn't sure. If I had heard her correctly, I would have pointed out that no, my boyfriend is not hot. But my HUSBAND is. :wink

Another one for Jon:

Jon's sitting on a bench at Greenfield Village, waiting for me to get back from the ladies' room or something. I see a couple older ladies talking to him. As I approach, I hear the one saying: "Your hair is gorgeous, you should never cut it".

Sigh. Fucking BS need to impress the new bosses. I kept his ponytail for a couple years afterwards. :(

-- i forgot that people used to compliement my writing as well. not just "creative" writing but letter writing. i know that doesn't come across here in posts or in ims because of my laziness and not using capital letters, full words, proper punctuation etc etc. but i have had many people come to me when writing letters or doing papers for school or whatever they had to write something for - wanting my input on what to say, how to say it or just to correct to over all lay out of it.

The orifinal DOLEMITE said I was "...the spitting image of Yvonne DeCarlo a.k.a. L:ily Munster...and then kissed my hand!

dolemite don't need no posse! ;)

It's always "I wish I had your hair."

"Don't ever cut it!"

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

i used to get compliments/comments on my hair all the time when it was long. people would play with it, and tell me they would die for my hair, or how much money people paid to have hair like that. over the years though it has gotten less curly and i keep it shorter so it doesn't look anything like it used to but it was always to the middle of my back or longer, all one length, curly. my friend who was getting married (i was in her wedding) told me i better not do anything to my hair before her wedding or she was not going to let me be in it. i had told her i was going to cut it and put red streaks in it over black. yeah that was like 8 years ago. [i finally just had that hair style last year. ;)]

Bishop and I get compliments on being a couple quite a bit. A girl at CC leaned over and asked me "are you and your boyfriend married?" I told her yes, then she said "good! I was going to tell you that you two should be married because you guys are great together!"

We were at the mall a couple of moths ago and a woman jumped up out of her seat, stopped us and said "you all look so good together, holding hands!!! You look so happy together!"

No, but some of you guys are close. I think it should be your main aspiration to become like Double D.

MsM...  You don't really think anyone approaches Dave's level of commentary, do ya?
