Parasites are scary. Had a bedbug scare while visiting in Denver. Nowhere near as gross as Botfly, but still nasty. I'm wigging out because I'm covered in unidentified bites. I still strongly suspect that the vast majority are mosquito bites, but some look eerily characteristic of bedbugs. EVERYTHING is getting washed in hot water and then kept in quarantine when we get home.

Oh, and Botfly are a risk in Hawaii, too. Friend of mine got one in her eye. Yes, her eye. Takes a split second for the adult to lay the egg. Said friend thought she just got sand in her eye while gardening until she saw something moving in there. Very gross. The ER says she was lucky where it was that it didn't cause blindness.

I have a low white blood cell count, which apparently means I'm supposed to be careful about germs and such, so of course like a good little boy I am very careful to do .... absolutely nothing about it.

I mean its called "leukopenia" , comon... something that sounds like some sort of luke-warm-penis , how serious can I take it. I take showers, drink a lot of lukewarmpenis killing alcohol, good enough right right?

I mean its not like I ever get sick or anything. *cough*

Stroke and Heart attacks covers something like 20% of all deaths in the world.

Think about that, the two categories, cover 20% of the worlds deaths, over every other cause combined. And that isn't just diseases that is 20% of all causes of death period, including wars / accidents, etc. (In the U.S. they cover about 50% of all deaths)

Although they are also heavy hitters on the elderly so it might seem less "scary" since we sort of know everyone dies eventually.

Except me and everyone I care about we are all going to live forever.

I was hospitalized for 10 days in 2008 with post-surgical pseudomonas and MRSA infections. Basically, got it in a spot between my naughty bits and my belly button. My doctor cut out a chunk of necrotic tissue in my abdomen, leaving a golfball sized crater behind. She thought this was fine. I refused to look at it. It wasn't until my visiting nurse had to teach Jon how to change my packing and dressing that he saw it - and freaked out in the most undemonstrative way possible.

Ended up re-admitted to the hospital where the CDC was called in to call the shots. They cut out a wedge of belly and a plastic surgeon put me back together. Put me on a wound vac for a few days, kept me on mega antibiotics, gave me a couple blood transfusions, and then released me after 10 days. Still had to walk around for a couple weeks with basically a rubber turkey baster bulb and tube sticking out of me, constantly sucking fluids out. "What's that making a bulge in your dress?" "That's my bulb." "Your what?" "My bulb. My sucky bulb." "Riiiight..."

Took almost a year to recover totally from 3 surgeries in 2 weeks, anesthesia and antibiotic side-effects, and weakness. I have to tell dentists and specialists that I have had MRSA. I am apparently susceptible to catching it again easily. Yippee.

But on a good note, I never received a single bill for any of this. Not even copays or deductibles. Pretty sure my doctor took care of that. Nice of her, huh?
