Destroit
65 Million people in the path of destruction this weekend. The east coast's infrastructure is not accustomed to this much water. When Katrina hit, sure it started out as a category 5, but by the time she got to New Orleans she was only a 2-3, and did not have nearly as much water as Irene. Basically, this is going to be like every NYC catastrophe movie ever made. They're already talking about shutting down the bridges to and from the island once the winds are 60mph, which would be frightening to know you're trapped there. Tourists were ordered to leave the barrier islands Thursday, though local officials estimated Friday that about half the residents on two of the islands have ignored evacuation orders. As a result, officials ordered dozens of body bags. "I anticipate we're going to have people floating on the streets, and I don't want to leave them lying there," said Richard Marlin, fire chief for one of the seven villages on Hatteras. "The Coast Guard will either be pulling people off their roofs like in Katrina or we'll be scraping them out of their yards." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44285405/ns/weather/

taysteewonderbunny
I can't fathom why people would ignore an evacuation order. Usually it's because the freeways are too crowded, the airports are closed, and they themselves may lack money or transportation. The cost of gas and food in those affected regions typically skyrockets. They might also be too old or sick to move. And then some are just stupid. Vater Araignee
I can't fathom why people would ignore an excavation order. They constantly give thunderstorm warning and I never hear a crack. I have survived hurricanes before. How will I pay for it? Where am I going to go? Who will protect what little I have from the looters that stay? Hate to mention this one but it is a legitimate thought...Gods will be done. Right now you're equating a thunderstorm to a category 5 hurricane. I get thunderstorms all the time, most that ever happens is a power outage, maybe a small fire. Never the devastation a hurricane has ever wrought. Saying you've survived huricanes before is equivalent to saying you've survived Russian Roulette before. You can't always get lucky. Have you not savings? Have you not family or friends out of state? You're more worried of your possessions than you're own life? Things can be replaced. That is not a legitimate thought for all, not everyone believes in your god. If you are Christian the bible clearly states your god will not interfere, yet you believe him to send one of natures W.M.D at us? Please note none of this was meant with any ill intent or hostility, merely reasonable questioning. Edited August 27, 2011 by Lacilliyr

Lacilliyr
He said Gods, and Christianity is strictly monotheistic. It could have been plural or possessive. "Gods will" A lot of people don't take the time to add proper grammar to their sentences. So Occams Razor; Is it more likely he meant plural gods Or Is it more likely he meant the Christian god's will.

I remember when his show was first on, he was a little out there on some topics, but I actually agreed with him on a lot. After while he just kept degenerating into this crazy "FOLLOW ME OR ALL WILL DIE!" corruption conspiracy cult-leader kind of crap. His ego is overwhelming; I'm surprised that he doesn't just go on air and sit there sucking his own wanker for an hour. I could see saying something rational such as, "This is such a tragedy, I really wish people would have heeded my warnings about disaster preparation, so that damage and deaths will be minimized." But instead he does this "Holier-than-thou-little-kid-I-told-you-so bullshit and once again, goes off about how great he is and the fact that people should just blindly follow him. I hate when celebrities do this and get a huge chip on their shoulder like they're God's own cousin. Kanye West was the same way. When his career first started, he had enough talent and message to be able to be big like Diddy or 2Pac (well...maybe not Pac, that's virtually impossible). But he had to start acting like he was the most intelligent person in the world that everyone wanted to hear, and made himself look like a jackass on several occasions. He could have been known for his music, but now he's known for fish sticks and "I'ma let you finish, but..." Destroit
Regarding the Glenn Beck thing: "If you've waited [until now], this hurricane is a blessing," he said. "It is God reminding you, as was the earthquake last week...you're not in control." WOW...what a worthless piece of shit. And he's doing all the "God" bullshit now? Cult leader, he completely needs to be stopped, that guy is getting so out of control. Sadly I have to sit there and listen to people I care about spew his nonsense, and if you try to retort with ANY sound logic they say: "Well you don't know because THEY don't want you to know!" Cult....
Lacilliyr
He's not Christian, from what I've gathered being on the board. Ah, well I don't know his background. God's will be done is a popular Christian saying, mix in that a lot of people don't add apostrophes when generally typing in the possessive, it was merely a shining candidate for the number one Occam pick. I've only heard mainstream religions to say that their beliefs were a legitimate thought amoung others. Hence mainstream. Whether he is Christian or not, not all of us would view it as a legitimate thought. There are many things beyond our control, but that doesn't mean we bend over and take what's coming just because we can't stop its inevitability. Cult.... Indeed. Minus the religious cult leader bits, I understand his point. Everywhere in the US is prone and susceptible to one form of natural disaster or another. It's foolish to not take precautions or understand what can occur where you live. It's all about picking your poison. If you don't heed the warnings of a major disaster headed towards you, I'd only feel bad for any children with you who do not understand and have no choice to leave. Natural disasters have become the human predator for natural selection. Glenn Beck has gone over the top with this follow-me bit though.

I get thunderstorms all the time, most that ever happens is a power outage, maybe a small fire. Saying you've survived huricanes before is equivalent to saying you've survived Russian Roulette before. You can't always get lucky. Once again. Do you not understand human nature? Have you not savings? So everyone has savings? Have you not family or friends out of state? I guess that means there are no people who dont have family or friend outside the evacuation zone in your world. You're more worried of your possessions than you're own life? Things can be replaced. Yes some people are more worried about their possessions. More of that pesky human nature. That is not a legitimate thought for all, not everyone believes in your god. If you are Christian the bible clearly states your god will not interfere, yet you believe him to send one of natures W.M.D at us?Yes some people are more worried about their possessions. And finally Gods will be done means... What ever happens, happens. And the accusation you make is terribly offensive. Please note none of this was meant with any ill intent or hostility, merely reasonable questioning. Saying this part doesn't make it all right. Especially to a person who hates organized religion of any type including atheism. Both side don't have a frelling clue as to what they are talking about and need to shut the hell up.
Lacilliyr
Way to take offense to something that was not offensive. I won't even bother going on with this. When simple questions cause you to be offended and smarmy, it's obvious what more basic questions will do. You should seriously look into your temper there P:

If you are Christian the bible clearly states your god will not interfere, yet you believe him to send one of natures W.M.D at us? That does not read as a question so much as it does read as an accusation. One time my grandfather said "BOY SHUT THE HELL UP! You're gong to get hurt telling a man what he believes before you hear him say it!" And to re answer all of you counters, you did essentially say I was correct on every single one when you said "That is not a legitimate thought for all" meaning that "It is for some" on that question but ultimately meaning all the possibilities I posed to answer the question are legitimate. Logical or not.
