What neat vinyl have you bought today?

If I'm the only vinyl collector here, I'm going to be very disappointed in all of you.

Here are my recent pillages:

Adam & the Ants -- Kings of the Wild Frontier, EX

Adam & the Ants -- Prince Charming, EX

Dexys Midnight Runners -- Searching for the Young Soul Rebels (UK pressing), VG

Dexys Midnight Runners -- Too-Rye Aye (UK pressing), Fair

Dexys Midnight Runners -- Geno, VG+, shrinkwrapped

Marc Almond -- Vermin In Ermine, F/G sleeve, NM liner and VG+ vinyl (I have no idea how that happened, either)

I'm also waiting for eight titles to arrive in the mail -- I've discovered eBay sellers.

I picked up a big crate of 80's vinyl, mostly in excellent condition, from a yard sale last year.

I'm an eBay seller, and pretty much bought it for that. A lot of what's in there isn't worth anything, but it's been fun listening to all of it.

If it weren't for the distance thing, I'd gladly give them all to you or anyone else who collects. I've found my initial hold-out for vinyl over CD's is long over - I've made the switch pretty permanently. Though I do keep a good Technics turntable on my system to play the vinyl I do intend to keep.

If you can - hit up yard sales. That stuff is sold by the crate like crazy. Average price is $1.00 an album, less if you're good at haggling.

I bought a record this weekend.

It is a newer release (maybe a year or two ago it came out) of some very early (Jan and Feb 1980) Joy Division recordings-most i believe are live, but some kind of sound like them just like jamming in someone's basement. This one i had bought was volume 2 of 2. I'd bought volume one a while ago and it is pretty and kind of dark and i especially like the way it makes you feel-this second volume was nearly as cool, I'd say that it's nice to have...that was my 'latest' vinyl purchase...

What's this called?

That's fine; thanks for the effort.

Okay, i remembered you: volume II is known as 'Les Bains Douches' and it is on Get Back (Low Cost) records-no pressing date is printed anywhere on the record or jacket, strangely.

Volume I is titled 'Preston 28 February 1980'. It is on Get Back records as well, and was pressed in '99 and 2000.

Oh, thank you! Weird, I've never heard of vol. 2 thingie, but I have that Preston 28 February one on CD. The disc says "Fun Multiplication" on it instead of "Joy Division," for some silly reason.

Hrm. Another thing to keep my eyes open for.

Check Record Time (the one on Gratiot ave nearest 11 mile), i believe they had another copy or two left-sort of expensive for a record @ 14.95 but still cheaper than a CD... It was released as Joy Division (the vinyl version was, anyway), as was the first volume, if you have the record.

All this talk about records, I want to go shopping this weekend.

Well, I suggested the Gratiot/11 RecordTime for more than one reason, actually-I was in the RecordTime on 9mile, nearest Woodward two weeks ago and i looked over everything and RecordTime Ferndale sucks. -They actually have a 'New Rock' and 'Indie' vinyl sections at Gratiot/11 now (it's small yet, but it's growing as they stock more into it week-to-week). All in all, RecordTime sucks, no matter where you're at, but that's where i found my copy.

Last week i was also at Neptune records and CarCity records. CarCity has the new Kraftwerk re-pressings! -Race ya there.

Went to Car City Records with Makeshift (not on here) and picked up TWO (one for each of us) copes of Killing Joke - Adorations dual disk UK Limited Edition 7" 45 RPM

The first disk though the hole was too small ON EACH to get it on the record player, but I forced it on and off (I was extra careful too) and it sounded great. Not a scratch on either copy and got them both in the bargin bin.

Ghostly International sent me something in the mail recently too, but thats newer material.

...I didn't know you listened to Jazz...god, you are the coolest Amanda. Do you shop at CarCity at all? They have a very nice (vinyl) Jazz section. I buy Jazz, too.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I am too cool. I don't know how I keep up with myself, really.

Just kidding.

I haven't been to Car City, but have been told about 37,000 times to go check it out. Perhaps someday.

It's an alright shop but they are more oriented towards people buying an entire section for like two grand, like people buying form over seas, than they are geared towards people who come in and spend $40 or $50, lately, so they've really gotton into a few particular genres, one of which happens to be Jazz.

As for Rock, they're really becoming pretty barren, but they do maintain a new rock, avante garde and local rock section which they stock regularly for walk-in customers. As for the rock that's not in this section, they've dropped the prices on those albums very low-they want to get rid of it all to make room for thier other genres, i think.

I am a VERY BAD PERSON:

I bought the following on eBay:

Toyah -- the Blue Meaning

Marc Almond -- Mother Fist & Her Five Daughters

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWN:IT

Japan -- Gentlemen Take Polaroids

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWN:IT

Adam/and the Ants -- B-Side Babies (CD)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWN:IT

...I'm also watching three different original pressings of Dirk Wears White Sox and and one of only two copies I've EVER seen on eBay of the Flaming Hands album.

Kraftwerk~Radio Activity...$9.

Depeche Mode~The Meaning Of Love (maxi-single)...$2.83

Depeche Mode~People Are People (maxi-single)...$2.83

Joy Division~The Peel Session ...$7.90

I had to get ahold of one of those great, new Kraftwerk re-pressings so i went to CarCity and of course, when you're in a record store, you check out a few things, so upon further inspection I found a couple of Depeche Mode singles and some more rare Joy Division and finding that record (JD) was really exciting and unexpected. It's a Peel Sessions (BBC radio) recording from January 1979 and it's really kind of a cool peek at the band from before they were very big. Last night I had a game of chess on the balcony with a friend and drank a bit of absinthe listening to all the fireworks and flipping my new records. Joy.

Ghostly can suck it.

Yes, it's personal. I hold a lot of grudges.

The last record I acquired was Thelonious Monk:  It's Monk's Time.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

K, but I'm still happy, free record.

PM me anything I should know, grudges are fun, and I like gossip when it pertains to potential business.

Rozzlyn - I have a copy of Japan's Assemblage you can have if you pay shipping.

The vinyl is excellent. The cover has some wear at edges, but otherwise is very good.

Want a list of what I've got? I'm not selling this stuff, just can't bring myself to get rid of it, even though I don't want any of it. It's yours if you pay to ship it. I can quote you shipping on anything you want sent in one package beforehand in case you don't want to pay to ship it. But it should be pretty cheap at media rate.
