n0Mad
Most songs can be pigeonholed into one specific genre, but there are several songs out there that combine the elements of a couple different genres and could fit easily into a playlist of either one. So for all the DJs and music lovers out there, what bridge songs can you think of, and what two genres do they tie together? And don't just stick with goth/industrial/etc. because this is DGN. Delve into any genres you can think of.

Troy Spiral (13)
"Fusion" is pretty much the way of the music world these days, along with science / art /gaming (most likely reason: globalization) and every thing else , this will become more and more common. "Purist" artists/songs are in the minority. Not that thats a bad thing, just a commentary. Often a song gets put into the genre that the band/artist is most closely associated with, even though the song itself isnt of that genre. I remember back in ancient history finding the single "Dirty Diana" by Michael Jackson in the pop-music section, and that's when this first dawned on me (that song isn't pop at all). Songs like "a well respected man" could easily be in multiple genres but since its by who its by, it gets put into one.
n0Mad
I'm thinking along the lines like if you're a mobile DJ at some event and people are requesting all sorts of songs. Instead of jumping from one genre to another jarringly, you can use bridge songs. Like, play a few pop songs, then throw a Taylor Swift song in there to smoothly transition into country. Then after a couple of those, play Johny Cash's cover of "Hurt" to segue you into some industrial. After the industrial, you can throw on a Lady Gaga tune and if you don't kill yourself for that you can transition back into pop rock. You know, stuff like that. Thoughts? Fierce Critter
LOVE this thread. Crowded House's "Into Temptation" Could bridge between alternative pop and something like dark ambient (I admit to being utterly and completely clueless when it comes to the gazillion sub-forms and spinoffs of goth/industrial, so dark ambient is a guess because I didn't want to say "goth.") Similarly, Nirvana's "Something in the Way" = Grunge to [insert goth sub-category here]: Edited February 3, 2012 by Fierce Critter
