Troy Spiral (13)
(CNN) – Televangelist Pat Robertson is raising eyebrows, and cheers from activists who are usually his opponents on political issues, by calling for the legalization of marijuana. “I really believe we should treat marijuana the way we treat beverage alcohol,” Robertson told The New York Times on Wednesday. “I’ve never used marijuana and I don’t intend to, but it’s just one of those things that I think: this war on drugs just hasn’t succeeded.” Really would be nice. I've long thought either we need to bring prohibition back, or marijuana should be legal , its far less harmful than booze is. I actually have legitimate medical reasons that it MIGHT help me with (not really sure) but I don't want there to be a record somewhere of me going to a med marijuana clinic and 3 years from now I try to apply for something and they are like "uh...HUH! just as we thought.. damn long hairs!" Prohibition was a great experiment in profiting. The LEOs got all kinds of money thrown at their organizations, the thugs got the same. People who never would have touched a drop became intrigued, consumption actually increased because of the 18th. If marijuana ever gets legalized (doubtful, LEOs get to much for it and drug companies, big alcohol and crime bosses lobby against it) for recreational purposes, they will find something that is legal to make illegal and blow it out of proportion. Did you know that big pharma is lobbying to have vitamin and mineral supplements turned prescription only? Hey, what you in for? 2000 mg of vitamin C and a zinc tab got me 2-5. Starting with pharmacists. And Hippies.
Troy Spiral (13)
Always thought it was odd that I can go to the grocery store and buy stuff that would kill a whole village (check the cleaning supplies) yet something that has far far less deadly effects (even heroin is better for u than Drano) is illegal. Prohibition was also a kick ass way to increase the power of criminals. The mafias power in particular was begining to decline and got a great boost. Organized crime got mega-organized durring prohibition and learned a lot in how to operate later in the century. The average american that was for it really did think it was a "more moral way to do things" but in part like you say, and also since it was so widely ignored , it bleed into all other areas of law enforcement and caused even more disrespect for the law in general. Exact opposite effect that joe-blow was hoping for. One thing it did do away with is the men-only saloon concept (for the most part), since women learned they could party with the men in the speakeasy, and when the saloon came back, they didn't go anywhere.
