There have been a few bills introduced over the last 2 years to rescind or modify the ban, but things seem to be heating up as of late.

What kind of impact have you seen in the places you frequent? Over the time the ban's been in effect, I've mostly only gone out to the Crofoot/Pike Room, and they had banned smoking at some (if not most) events even before the statewide measure kicked in.

for some recent developments, here's a smoky link:

Glad I am in Georgia...they let the businesses choose and they choose well. While the state government did try a smoking ban once it didn't work...it REALLY didn't work.

However, from what I saw when I was back up by my college was that the major bars were no longer packed on the weekend and the really creepy one with a big patio now was full...on the patio not inside. Also, when you have to step outside of a hookah lounge or cigar bar to have a cigarette...something might be wrong there.

All the bars and restaurants and the like are packed to the gills just as they always were up here in the Traverse City area.

I have a very strong reaction to cigarette smoke. That has kept me from going to venues in the past. Now, I don't hesitate to go to a bar or club. So the ban has HELPED me frequent places I have sometimes opted to skip due to physical discomfort.

I've never been to one but some bars (usually semi-private "local" bars, of which most people have never been to) are known as "smokeeasys" and do just ignore it, and since the fines and such are not mega-stiff, and law enforcement isnt very agressive about it as yet anyway, its not as big a fear for business owners as it might otherwise be.

I don't feel like ass as as often after leaving a bar is my "personal" experience. I go out more often (not that that i saying much) than I might otherwise have because I know I don't have to deal with the smoke-wall even though I was (and I guess vaguely still am) an occasional social smoker.

As to how its actually affected business , I'm curious but not curious enough to have done my homework.

Originally, just like I was against the cycle helmet mandate , I was against this on a "freedom" basis, but in actual practice both have helped ME personally, but, I'm still not so sure its "right".
