Prometheus - June 8, 2012

Recommended Posts

About damn time. Was a huge fan of the first two movies. (third one was tollerable, after that forget it...)

THIRTY years waiting for this bastard to come back to the Alien universe/franchise he started.

Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Legend, Gladiador)

June 6th (3D) and .. thank god, rated >> R <<.

My initial reaction after seeing the non-teaser trailers (the shorter teaser trailers are are "sketchy/moody" looking lets call it, which is what I would expect from a ridley scott alien movie) is that the whole thing just seems to "slick" to me, not the dark film noir H.R Geiger / Hard Boiled Grit of alien or blade. Alien/Aliens/Predator were fairly gritty/messy things, this is more of an Avatar style "smooth" (and fairly brightly lit) looking film. Not that it will make it bad, just not what I was expecting. I was expecting much darker, you know, more like alien/blade runner.

Still excited. First time in a long time i've been hopeful about a "big" sci fi movie in awhile. (Usually they are too much on the popcorn-fest "bring the kids" side).

The way one of the producers described this movie is that its not a prequel in the traditional sense of, the events in the prequel lead up to, and then end the movie with, what will then be picked up in the movie it is a prequel of. He described this as being "concurrent" with what happened before the first movie. Which sounds like a subtle distinction. But, one thing is that in the previews its clear they knew about an alien civilization or beings already here, before Alien 2 (Aliens) and in Aliens they make a big deal with they are grilling ripley at the "trial" about how what she was talking about and trying to warn them about, had never been seen before (and they essentially thought she was fulla shit). Hope they have some nod to how that could be.

I get the feeling that Weyland-Yutani is hiding massive amounts of info from Earth governments by the time the Ripley era is happening. Also, wasn't there over 50 years between the first and second Alien movies?

Yeah five decades is a long time. I guess I figured the aliens would be common knowledge five decades later after "first contact" , but i guess the info could have been suppressed and the exact opposite occurs. But at least at that trial, with the corporation, I got the feeling anyhow, that the "laywers" were being at least honest about having never heard / seen of such a creature as she described. Not that my "feelings" mean anything hah.

Saw it. Was good. Not the epic movie I was hoping for but it was good.

(Very mild spoilers, all could be gotten from just watching previews)

Still have a lot of questions. What was the alien guy at the beginning doing? What was the significance of his DNA "recombining"? (Pretty confident that planet was the same planet they later visit. Right?) What was that ship that was there above him doing? (note it was a circle shaped ship not the "military" shaped ship.

I assume that mural that looked like "THE" aliens was sort of like a bio hazard symbol? Or was it some sort of woship thing? No clue what the huge human head was about. Maybe just for looks but I doubt it.

And the big question is why the heck would they leave hieroglyphs pointing the way to their "base" ? This is not as simple as it seems as there , as far as I can tell given their abilities, no reason for them. You can tell there IS a reason, but what that reason is is not as simple as what the female doctor states in the movie.
