Do Atheist Believe In Ghost?

Recommended Posts

As an atheist, I find the probability of ghosts and an afterlife very VERY low (as is true with God/Gods.) Also as an atheist, I acknowledge that there is so much we don't know about the universe that to completely dismiss any possibility is also very limited.

Now ghosts... is that the same as apparitions, phantoms, wraiths, etc..... ? It depends on your definition of ghost. There are things that are seen that cannot be explained (such as UFOs.... we see lights in the sky and we don't know what they are... that does NOT mean they are aliens, it simply means that we don't know.) The same goes for ghosts... we see some human glowing shape, or cold spots, or strange flickering... that does not mean some dead fucker walking around by default... it means we don't know what it is yet.

Most atheists will state it as such "I believe there is no God" most will not say "There is definitely no God" because we would then fall into the same trap as those with faith (IE: Acting on something without the evidence to support it) The same can be said for belief in ghosts and and afterlife... I don't believe there are ghosts or that we will somehow survive our own deaths, because there is no evidence to support such claims, but if I do see such evidence than I am open to the possibility of adjustment of my views.

My thoughts exactly. :) Though I've been told on a few occasions (on these boards infact) that I'm apparently not an atheist unless I'm willing to fall into said trap.
