I just read the article and saw the eBay page...it's Excedrin all over again.

I'm going to cry...

This is truly the loss of another American Icon.

Oh the childhood memories.

I hate to say it's a money issue...so I won't...

I guess now I must look into another supplier for my junk food habit...

I think this article should help:

DIY Hostess Twinkies: How to Make Them at Home

compared to a Twinkie those are not good, how ever they can be very tasty.

Make them in 4 or five months and you might just think "Wow these taste just like the Real everything's artificial thing."

Well, I hope you're right...

Interestingly, living in the part of the city that I do, we get the day old already "not so perfect" version of the "Real everything's artificial thing".

I have no idea what a fresh "good" Twinkie is supposed to taste like.

I'm used to them having those little clear food filler balls in them...so with the homemade ones, I already feel like I could bite into something that didn't have that "surprise inside"

If you give it a try Might I sugest this as a filling.

Ingredients:

1/3 cup of sugar

Two tablespoons of cornstarch

One and a half cups of whole milk

One Tablespoon of pure vanilla extract

1/3 cup of whiping cream

Directions:

Combine the milk, cornstarch and sugar to a sauce pan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about three minutes, stirring constantly to prevent sticking.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow to cool completely.

Pour the contents of the saucepan into a mixing bowl.

Stir in the vanilla extract and whiping cream.

refrigerated 1 hour.

Set mixer to whip/high and go at it till it looks right. Or go at it with a whisk and kill your elbow like I do.

That is my recipe for vanilla mousse.

According to my grandmother (way back in the day when she refused to let me eat them) the fillings use to be banna cream pie, vanilla cream pie, vanilla mousse then the tasty junk.

It sucks that Hostess is going out of business but I wouldn't worry too much about twinkies and ding dongs disappearing anytime soon. If anything I foresee maybe a month or two without them at most. But I'm sure someone will buy them out and start marketing them again under a different brand. Probably Dolly Madison Bakery. By the way has anyone else noticed that both Hostess and Dolly Madison Bakery have been selling zingers for some time now? They both make chocolate, raspberry, or banana flavored zingers. I have tried both in side by side comparisons and I can't tell any difference between the two. So with that being said, I'm sure everything will be alright.
