coming to AA/D the weekendbof the 25th. What to do?

Recommended Posts

Hey all. Ill be down there starting that thursday night through sunday. Might go see Flogging Molly that Friday, but what else is there to do?

First...might I suggest you click the "Follow this topic" button so you don't miss a comment.

Second...Will you be staying in Detroit or near Detroit...that makes a difference when it comes to visiting especially if you want to hit City Club at the Leland open Friday and Saturday nights or sightseeing around Downtown Detroit and eating at the various restaurants. If nothing else, Detroiters WILL eat. Plenty of places to choose from.

If we are free that weekend, I think it would be nice to show you around my stomping ground...I live 5 miles from the Renaissance Center and grew up through all the changes here...the good and the bad...

in AA you have The Necto and The Blind Pig both are longtime stomping grounds for up and coming acts for ages (in AA) everybody from Jimmy Hendrix to The Police to Nirvana (before anyone ever heard of them) to all sorts of industral / goth acts have been through there.

If your still around on Monday Necto is the only real "dance club" that has anything like a goth night anywhere (although in truth like all such nights its more EBM/Synth ish) ala CC.

You do need to hit city club at some point. My stock suggestion is Saturday as that is theoretically "DGN Night" although we haven't been putting out the showing like we used to in years past. Used to be you couldnt walk through the door without getting mobed by some DGNers nor throw a beer cup without hitting one, sort of like cockroaches, now you have to hunt them down and count yourself lucky if you find a few.

I'm thinking if you could do something crazy like hit The Fox Theater (the crown jewel of the entire state of Michigan, let alone Detroit, as far as I'm concerned, I might go just to see the place, regardless of what is playing) for The Beatles With Rain on the 23rd.

Food wise I was going to suggest the Legendary Carl's Chop House in Detroit if you didnt mind laying out some cash, but god damnit, I'm gonna cry, just found out its closed down. I guess it had to happen. The last holdout high-end place in a crumby neighborhood. /sniffles.

Opus One has got some GOOOD eats but I'm not totally sure if they are back open again (they were closed for renovations but I've not been back there , I assume they are open again)

THE cony dog capital of the world , the place is nothing to look at , especially compared to the place just next door, but this is it , this is were you get your heart attack dogs, this place is the real old school deal : Lafayette Coney Island

Flogging molly is great , saw them when The Labyrinth was still active. Funny part was i managed to get in even though i forgot my fucking wallet AND my money. One of the few times DGN ever came in useful. yay.

Too true about the eats at Mexican Village...if you beg hard enough, they might actually allow you to eat some of the real hot sauces (which is the main reason I eat Mexican food).

Also, If you are in Downtown Detroit, a must visit is The Motor City Casino Restuarants. But that's only if you want to eat a ton of food for very little money...

If you are in Downtown Detroit in general...here is a restuarant guide.
