Sweet Home Alabama on MTV

I keep passing out on that station.

 

My parents grew up in Alabama and we spent many a Summer there.  Even with as poor as parts of the South were, you can still see the distinct differences in how the races lived, even in this movie.  As a child, I never knew there was more than one non-dirt road in Birmingham until the year I was actually old enough to be part of the rotating drivers.

 

The people with money, lived in the structurally built homes (a.k.a. the Plantation Houses).  The middle to lower classed lived down the dirt roads in Ranch Houses or homes built out of repurposed materials (such as train box cars and railroad ties :heart:).  And you knew you were in the "Countryside" because that's where all the Trailer Homes are.

 

The last time I was there was for my Great Grandmother's funeral some years back, and not much had changed.
