Fierce Critter
Or, at least, that "in between" stage does. Big time. I'm growing my hair out to 1 length, and trying for more length than I've ever had. But I don't know if I'm gonna make it. I'm going for a classic, medieval-maiden look, something like this: I think it's feasible - my hair has lots of natural wave, and should I be able to last that long, I think it'll come pretty close. But man, right now, it SUCKS. I can't do anything with it, it always looks like hell, and my top layer is somewhat damaged due to my dye/bleach fiasco last year. What to do? Head Wreck
grow out. it'll go through an untidy stage then cut it short start again, and be warned of the inbetween aukward lengths
bean
I feel your pain. Last year, my hair was down to the middle of my back and I cut it all off. Now I'm trying to grow it out again. When it gets in the weird growth stages (like right now), I just wear it up in different styles. My hair is curly so when it goes through a weird stage it looks stupid down, so I wear it in ponytails and stuff. Good luck!
pixiefae
I never get passed the awkward stages...I always cut my hair. I have very little patience with it. Plus I hate the time it takes to do something with it.
kellygrrrrrl
When I grew out my pixi cut.....it took 3 years just to get to the middle of the shoulder! The in between stages alotted a lot of different do's and up do's. Ya gotta get creative! I used a lot of barettes and snaps and stuff.

Guest MsMaldoror
Sometimes people cannot grow their hair long when they get older. I cannot grow mine more than about 3 inches past my shoulders now. I had hair half-way down my back (almost to my butt) when I was a kid. Good luck. TearSandrille
A long time ago I shaved my head, and growing it out was the pits. I remember the stage where it almost looked like you had a mullet. Technically, all the hair was the same length, but the bottom looked longer. Of course, I was too lazy to go to a hair stylist and just chopped the bottom off myself. I looked like a barbie that a three year old had gotten ahold of with scissors. wheresmypiggy
I was bald for 8yrs. I'm still stuck in the in between stage. I can only do something with it right after I get it relaxed at the salon. 3 days later its all shot to hell. I can't even go swimming :tear

A suggestion: My daughters' hair gets tangled really easily. While they're in the bath/shower I dump conditioner in their hair and comb it out while it's all slippery. DarkVampire
I've been debating whether to grow my long agian or not. I haven't had it long since a few years after high school. I had a job(for 12 years) that required it to be cut short. Now I have a job that it's not an issue. Blah
pixiefae
My hair hasn't been past my shoulders since I was 3. I had an unfortunate accident with Silly Putty and have decided after all this time, that short hair is me.

mallochai
ah... awkward hair issues. In middle school, I cut all my hair off, boy style, for football, then laboriously grew it out, bleaching it the whole time, so I had middle of my back length curly golden blonde locks. They were pretty, but in college, I decided to go dark brown with red streaks, which kept changing. Then I started cutting it, bit by bit one summer, until eventually it was about chin length. Finally, I bit the bullet, and went with the faux hawk. it was awesome, but come winter, my head became cold again, so I started to try to grow it back out. Since then... about three years ago, it's been varying lenghts and stages above chin length, mostly involving lots of short with sections of long. Recently, I went from black with streaks to blonde with purple and red streaks. The color was awesome the first few days, but now it's kind of blah, looking too brassy, cause the colors have kind of migrated together. My hair is merging into one conglomeration of a strange elongated bob, curly, and untamed. Some days, it's awesome. Other days.... I look like I have a bell on my head. I'm taking lots of "skin and hair" vitamins, which has really boosted the growth, but it's still slow going. I'm not sure why I want long hair again... I know it makes me really overly warm in the summer. I think it's just that my face is framed well with short hair, or long hair, but not anything in between. That, and I love my curls when they're functioning properly. So current status... torture! But I'm trying to stick to my plans... Just gotta grit my teeth and try not to use too many chemicals on it. Considering I've got a whole cupboard full of hair dye... that may be a problem. Luckily, my hair is ultra resistant to damage. Humidity, on the other hand, is another basket of snakes. with big, pointy teeth.

Maybe I just need new and interesting clippies. or more patience. :grin

Fierce Critter
My hair is baby-fine and sparse. Damned Blonde crap - with the exception of redheads, we have the least amount of hair in average than any other natural color. So there's no way in hell I can keep a pair of chopsticks in. As it is, I have to mostly use barettes with spongy sleeves on the clip to keep them in, or use tiny toddler-sized ones. I can't do a damned thing with it most of the time. Right now, it's mostly straight, as I used to get spiral perms and haven't had one in well over a year. My natural texture is pretty straight, with horrific cowlicks in the front bang area that make it swoop up from my scalp and then back down, like some kind of freakish golden arches over my forehead. Even though they give me lots of body, I'm avoiding a perm 'cause it's been so long since I let my hair stay natural. Not to mention the top layer with its color/bleach damage. Due to that I have to have some slight layering in it as it grows out - gotta keep trimming away the damaged part until the healthy new growth blends with the undamaged lower layers. I just look so unkempt most of the time, it's depressing. I just throw it into a pony tail, and add a braided headband to keep the shorter layers off my face. About the only thing I can do to it to make it look decent for going out is flatiron it, and then that's not guaranteed to help 'cause of the damaged top. Whine, whine, whine. Lilith
ahhh i feel your pain, if you visit a health food store (other then GNC) with some one knowledgable behind the desk, they sell suppliments that aid in the growth of hair. When I wanted hair and nail growth, I looked at Prenatals, and found other formulas near them in the vitamin aisle specifinally aimed and hair and nail growth, also. etc. furthermore, or something. Then again, there's always the ever helpful internet.
