The Informative Murder Porn Thread

I watch those shows from time to time.  I wanted to be a police officer at one point so I studied up on a lot of cases.  I never became a cop because of a bad back injury that caused me to become "a liability" even though I passed all of the tests with flying colors.  My girlfriend is finishing her degree in Forensic Psychology though so she watches them a lot and asks me a lot about ballistics.  I am a bit of a gun nut so I am good with ballistics.  lol

One of my buddies from High School's dad was a cop and he was always talking about becoming a cop (and he is one now (westland)) I thought about it quite a bit.  He's pulled me over twice over the years lol,  yay free get out of a ticket free cards FTW.

In the end I decided I didn't want a job were probably like 80% of the time people are NOT happy to see you and look at you as an asshole rather than a helpful person.

I do own a handgun (S&W 9mm handgun) but I  leave it at the GFs house most of the time since thats the reason I have it (shit neigborhood) I have plenty of ways to defend myself without the 9 anyhow.  Brown belt in both Tae Kwon Do (I'd never do that again, to much memorization of useless shit) and "American" Karate , which is much better, but I think If I had the energy I'd go with Krav Maga or some sort of specific self-defence course.  I would like to take a knife fighting class but time/money = bleh.  I have lots of knives, "quality" mace projectors (not the garbage you get at Meijer) and other random stuff.  Between being broken into way too many times and with my on again off again uber driving I'm on semi high-alert in recent years.  But its almost become a hobby as well as a self-defence concept.

Back on topic....

I don't really watch these kinds of shows much anymore.  I used to, but unless the show from a quality standpoint is just fucking amazing (The Wire, The Shield) which aren't really "forensic" shows anyway, I just overdosed on them years ago and can't seem to get back into them.  (plus keeping up with the shows I do watch is a pretty huge challenge with how little free time I seem to have)

Troy said someone start a new topic so...

Anyone like into this stuff besides Tron and I?

Yay! at the first part.   I do "like" this stuff, but its been awhile since I've been into it on any regular basis.  Kinda ODed on it awhile ago, and have SO much shit that I'm into , this is just sort of a "when its on and I run across it" type thing for me.   I did take chemistry, anatomy, biology physics and a criminology courses (all for CSI reasons) back in the day, so I definitely am biased toward it.  Back when I was toying with the idea of going into some sort of law enforcement... who am I kidding "some sort" means, Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation / something similar.

I actually had a police officer tell me that people being unhappy to see him just proves that he is doing a good job.  He went on to explain that people are so safe from the random acts of violence and other horrible crime that they don't even have to think about it so they look at police as being annoying.  I have always enjoyed doing the "behind the scenes" kind of work.  If I do my job right, you don't even know I did anything at all.  Maybe that's why I am so good at being a dishwasher.  lol.

I have owned a lot of different guns and have actually taken the PA State Police training for pistols and sharp shooting.  I sold off most of my guns because of the divorce years ago.  I miss my Taurus Judge and my 91-30 Mosin Nagant.  I actually had someone pull a snub nose 45 and open fire at me in Pittsburgh once and the only thing that saved me was my 9mm Czech Luger.  Right now I only have a High Point 40.  It's not bad but it is bulky and heavy.  A friend gave it to me because he didn't like it so the price was right.  I do want to pick up another Taurus Judge and possibly a Medusa M47 someday.  Neither one would be a good carry pistol due to size, they would be hard to conceal carry.  I may try to find a nice sub compact 45 sub compact as a standard carry weapon.

Don't get me wrong.  I do not feel that I need a gun.  The neighborhood I live in isn't that bad.  I have also studied various forms of martial arts and hand to hand weapons training.  I also personally do not like violence and  try to do everything I possibly can do to avoid it.  I am just grew up shooting and was taught proper respect for weapons and enjoy practicing.  I also believe that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to not have a gun and need it.  Case in point, I have had someone pull a gun and shoot at me while trying to rob me and the only thing that saved me was that I had a gun and was able to use everything I was taught to fire and hit three for three.

Sorry for such a long post. I am just a weirdo.

Somehow I'm picturing a sub compact .45 jumping out of my hand.   the GF has a  .380 sub compact and It kicks like a bastard for a handgun.   The other guns you were talking about I never heard of, had to google them..... holy $$.

At the likely range I picturing being from anyone breaking into my house (less than 30 feet) the "mace gun" I have seems more than adiquite , I almost felt like i was dying and I was  10 feet away from a guy that got maced once.  This thing projects a long stream, anyone that even gets splashed with it is going to be worthless.  Course Ill shoot em anyway If i have the option.  Just a good mace gun you can take anywhere and it fits in your pocket.

"I always enjoyed doing the behind the scenes work. (law enforcment)...... "Maybe thats why I'm such a good dishwasher."  lol

I had met this guy from Pittsburgh who told me his friend got shot in Philly because people in Philly don't like people from Pittsburgh. Something to do with balls. Can you confirm or deny that?

I cannot.  I am from Central PA and only went to Philly or Pittsburgh if I had to for work or if there was a really good band that I had no other choice.  Most of the people I have met from Philly or Pittsburgh were pretty crazy and aggressive so I didn't really want to be around them no matter where they were.
