The meaning of life and stuff.

Recommended Posts

At this point in your life, what do you think it all means? What do you think the universe is all about? How have your views changed over time? If you have learned one thing over the years about existing, what do you think it is?

I long held that there was a "point" designed into the universe, I just wasn't sure what it was.  I spent over a decade just trying to find what I assume existed(s) "the right religion" or "the right spiritual path".   Never found it, especially never found anything provable.  Although I do still find Religion / Mysticism / Occult interesting as a subject.

I think the universe is indifferent.  We are essentially the end result of a long line of universal happenings and we've evolved into beings that can look, contemplate , think.  So we are the universe experiencing itself so to speak.  What the "meaning" is,  I think is up to each of us to decide for ourselves.

Currently my meaning or thrust in life is to try to be  Kind and Honesty.    The being kind and being honest are often at odds with each other as there is such a thing as being TOO honest.  Telling grandma on her deathbed that shes probably not going to heaven would be an example.  Also truth as in "The Search For Truth" and how do we go about finding out the real truth about things?

I grew up interested in magick from a very young age. I never had Christianity shoved down my throat as my mom thought it best to find my own belief system for which I am very grateful.

I believe that our lives are what we make of them. We can't sit back and expect the universe to give us what we want or even need in life. It's all about what you put into it.

I don't really think there is a "meaning" to life but that could change someday. I stick mostly to occult studies, mainly left hand path stuff,  but am open to discussion on other things along these lines.

This started when I was very young, but basically, I believe heaven and hell is a metaphor for the life we live. If we feel we are suffering and in anguish we are living in our own personal hell, if we try and change what we can for the better we can slowly make it better and perhaps reach the "light" in life, perhaps through genuine love and compassion, unfortunately, when we are born into something dark and painful we sometimes have no clue that there is a place that bares light and if we don't know that light and love exists how do we know what it is and what that we are attempting to find even feels like?  It's, imo, the reason people stay in bad situations, they don't know that something better exists.

I based my life around Snoop Dog and Ice T songs, this is very disturbing what I'm reading.   No one has said  "BJs, Wads of Cash,  wearing your underwear OUTSIDE your pants, and huge piles of weed".   This is making me trip out.

You mean that post specifically is tripping you out or the topic at hand?

I think it's a matter of perspective. I interpreted the topic of the thread to mean, basically, based on our own personal life experiences, what have we learned and how has it impacted who we are at this point in our lives and how have our views or interpretation of life's event's changed over time. What is important to us as we have aged, what is priority to us now verses what was in the past.

I was just teasing with the Snoop Dog comment.  Like "most people are just dumbasses that wouldn't even give this sort of subject a second thought" its funny in the context I put it in, sad that no one cares to think about such things as this topic in general though.

I really didn't base my life around Snoop Dog and Ice-T.     (was actualy Sir Mix-a-lot  that I modeled myself after duh) lol

I think thats a huge part of it, at least in how you decide what the question/answer is.   But when someone says "What is the meaning of life"  I think its implied they are saying at least in part  "what is the meaning of life as a whole, like "what is the point of mankind (or maybe even what is the point of all living creatures" not say  what is the meaning "Troy's or Kat's or Phee's life." just as example.

I think the meaning of life is a moot point.  Why does it need meaning in the first place?

Really, the only point from a scientific standpoint is to generate offspring.  I'm quite happy not doing that.

Welp, another case of "I win" */smug*
