phee
Since I have come back to the site recently... it has been my observation that DGN has kind of gone through the life cycle of a star (the astronomy kind not the Hollywood kind). It started long ago as sort of a swirling mass of gothic dust and debris, and kept gaining strength and power over a long period of time... eventually it had it's own satellite planets (other boards such as moonlit michigan, another few I can't remember) and we got bigger and bigger... events and recognition... then we went all red giant and lost most of the mass to space... and now we are sort of this white dwarf status... Super dense (speaking for myself here), and very compacted but not gone...
kat (1)
The biggest thing I feel that seems kinda disheartening is that people don't interact as much. Like, for example all the fun it used to be playing the person above you games...I miss all the banter.
TronRP
I truly love phee's analogy. When I first signed up in 2012, it was all I could do to gain top poster status for the day. There were so many posts going on that it felt like I was reading a living novel. Then it got to the point where certain members were expecting to see me all over the board. Finally, I began to track a trend of a handful of members who generated the majority of the activity on the board and the status has hovered there ever since. I know it's not the way it used to be around here, but I have truly enjoyed the interaction with all the members I have had the chance to meet in real life over the years and I look forward to meeting more. (And hopefully get the chance to hang out again with those I have met.) Interestingly, after white dwarf status, there is the theoretical back dwarf. Ironically, should the board reach that point, DGN might actually draw more attention like an underground alternative hideout.
Troy Spiral (13)
Yeah cool analogy phee. DGN Is totally a white dwarf. (Good show btw) Never quite became massive enough to go supernova / black hole dead to the known universe. Despite my thinking that it would. To extend the analogy the sun is not a first generation star. It's formed from the dust of at least one previous generation likely more, re-incarnated as a yellow dwarf (one of the oldest such reincarnated) so old as to be almost as old as the universe itself. DGN is not a 'first generation dgn' having gone rhough many regenerationss. But as far as I know it pre-dates everything of its specific type still in existence. Baring an influx of matter / peoeple (which i still hold out hope for)it will remain a less energetic version of itself until The Great Freeze (opposite of the big bang). Illuminatrix
The analogy is rather charming. o-o
