Music Choices

Have you ever known those people who look at you like you have the plague because they don't necessarily like or agree with your music choices. I want to strangle my roommate tonight, because while they were gone I was listening to some music. She comes home and gives me this "I'm disgusted" look while she sneers at my radio. It just pisses me off when people are so self centered that they think only their opinions and likes are correct. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if it drives them crazy also.

You must be talking about those elitist, superior complexed, mal adjusted individuals that have convinced themselves they are sophisticated and better than most people.

Yes I have had to deal with them and I say to them, kindly go fuck yourself. I hate that attitude from anyone. Makes me wanna see them fall on their face.

This has happened to me a lot!!! I mean A LOT!

I get eye rolls, sighs, etc... both from people who I am listening to "Dark" music around, and from people who are "Dark" who don't like the "Light" music I might be playing at that moment...

Well, I won't name names, but I got into this with someone here on the board some time ago. I haven't seen them around lately, but they're not hesitant to state their opinion, and I'm sure will pop in and give us their .02 if they see fit. :wink

Anyway, I decided years ago that there's no such thing as "bad" music. It's all so subjective, so dependent on a person's tastes, that how can anyone possibly say this music is bad, or that sucks, etc.

For instance, I personally can't stand most Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton, etc. But they're considered genius by many, many people. I'm not right and they're not wrong - it's just a matter of what does and does not please a certain person's ears.

I actually came to this realization when I was in the car in the 90's and listening to Pearl Jam. My sister got into the car and said something to the effect of, "this is really crap." Now, I was hurt by this. But then, I thought about the fact that her music collection at the time included, amongst others, Mariah Carey, Madonna & some other stuff I couldn't get to the channel knob fast enough to change. And that's when I realized I could never say the same to her - I couldn't hurt her feelings that way.

It's not just a matter of not hurting someone's feelings, either. I really think, for one thing, that music critics overall should cease to exist. How in the world can one person say that someone else's lyrics/music/arrangement is or isn't good? I mean, when someone takes the time to make what is actually pretty much an inspired thought tangible - who is ANYONE to judge the worth of that?

There is music that just does not work in my ear. I don't listen to most true industrial, noise, or even country, rap or classical for that matter. I just don't like it. But someone out there DOES - even if it's just the creator.

It's all "good" to someone.

Yeah in general most people do not like what I listen to from either one extreme to the other one day it will be Metallica and the next it might be the three dog night and the next it might be alice cooper and then on a rare occasion I have an ABBA cd hidden for those times when I'm being very nostalgic but as was mentioned earlier by many music is all subjective and depending on my moods that will influence what I listen to................and if you don't like that *sticks his tongue out*
