There Was Nothing I Could Have Done

Recommended Posts

Late last night while I was laying in bed, I came to the realization that even if I had the power to go back in time; there is nothing that I could have done to stop what happen to me from happening.  I am sure it is emotionally unhealthy. But all this time I have been thinking if only I could go back in time I would fix all of this. I would stop it. But now I see that is not true. Because none of it was my fault or my doing. And even if I went back in time it would all play out just as it did. Because I can not fix what I did not break. The things that happen were caused by the actions and choices that other people made. Not by me. For some reason coming to this realization makes me feel even more powerless then I did before. Maybe with time I can work through it.

It may be true that you had no power to change things, but you have all the power in how you react to the things that happen (unless we have toxic substances or something preventing us)  its not so much what happens , but how we let it affect us.

It sounds pretty scary.  Whatever it is.

Give what little I know about you if I could be permitted to suggest a book:

The Gifts of Imperfection: Let go of who you think you're supposed to be and embrace who you are.

the subtitle is slightly misleading.  Just because it covers SO much. Been acclaimed by names big and small and is very good.  I've read it twice, might read it more but there is so much t read. They have it in audiobook format too which might be helpful.

Hugs.  I want to say that I am sorry for whatever you have had to go through in you're life. Based on what I see you saying though, whatever it was was not done by you're hand, was not caused by you're action, and was not, therefore, something that you could have foreseen happening. Seeing how you said "by coming to the realization has made you feel more powerless than before"... Let's look at that. By you feeling powerless over a situation that you had no decision, no control, and no power over in the first place may be you're subconscious saying.." It's OK to feel powerless because you were". It sounds to me like you have somehow been trying to blame yourself, or take responsibility for what ever this is all this time and you have to realize that,  you were powerless in the situation and you don't have to own another person's treachery, and that is on that persons soul, they will have to answer to someone for their actions ultimately. You're mind is trying to let you know that it's OK.

You cannot change the situation it was not you're doing but you can empower yourself by giving the responsibility back to the original owner. This is were you take the power back. Do not let this own you.

(I am keeping you in my heart and thoughts)

I know hindsight is generally 20/20. When you first mentioned the beginnings of all this, I felt helpless and all I could do was offer you a bit of foresight. I just feel so bad that certain things came to past. And no it is not fair, but like Troy said:

There truly was nothing you could do even with all of the advice in the world. This was going to play out. And I do apologise for being so bold, but you should not have been forced into the situations that you were put in. Your protector was not looking out for your well being and did not have you and yours futures in their mind. They were trying to mentally correct some missed opportunities from their past and thus, left you out of the equation. Had their eyes been opened to everything you told us, they would have seen it coming too. Sadly, they chose to turn a blind eye to all of the warning signs and, therefore, everything followed the path it was going to take.

If you don't mind me sharing, but during the unfolding of all this, I had had a dream where I could see you standing on train tracks on a slightly raised hill in the middle of the night. As I looked down the tracks, I could see the light of a train piercing the night sky as it came around a bend. In disbelief, I immediately came to the realization that you were standing on these tracks, in front of this train, in the middle of the night. I could see the light racing towards you as I began running at full speed to get to you. To my horror, I didn't make it in time, but as I was looking at what should have been an impact was instead ghostly images of you and the train passing through each other. You stood there staring at me, the roar of the train was deafening. As we stared at each other, I was happy at the fact that you were personally untouched by the train, but my heart broke at the same time. I knew you would survive all of this, but at what cost.

Speaking from a specifically sci-fi standpoint, even if you could go back in time to change things you couldn't, because then there would be no reason for you to go back in time to change them creating a paradox.

Speaking from a realistic one, there is no point trying to change the impossible.  Accepting things and moving on are the only options.  All you can do is try to fix or mitigate the fallout that comes from it.
