DS9 TWENTY FOUR years old as of yesterday?

Damn.  I remember watching the first episode of TNG.  Twenty Four damn years ago? Seriously? Wow. 

 

DS9 Debuted 24 Years Ago Today

 

Back on January 3, 1993 — or 24 years ago today — Star Trek: Deep Space Nine debuted in first-run syndication with the two-hour premiere, “Emissary.” It’s true that DS9, particularly when compared/contrasted with The Next Generation, represented an angry, gritty, contentious twist on Gene Roddenberry’s Wagon Train to the Stars concept. A commander with no desire to be there? Who had a young child on board with him? Characters who disliked one another other? A space station that boldly went… absolutely nowhere? Politics? Religion?

At the end of the day, could it be called Star Trek? Twenty three years later, most fans would argue that, yes, DS9 was Trek. Truth be told,  many fans consider DS9 their favorite of the five live-action Trek series to date precisely because it was so different. Others appreciate it more now in retrospect, as it grew on them over time. And, yes, there are those Trek fans who, to this day, still detest the show.

It pretty much paved the way for Babylon 5 as a series too.  I mean yes, it only happened one year later, however I doubt it would have been as well received as it was without it.  It was basically the same concept.

I also feel even older now, so thanks for that :(

Imagine how I feel.  I've been watching Trek since the original series first aired.  I was 8 at the time and loved it.  The main reason I loved DS9 was because it wasn't all nicey nice first contact, solve the problem by end of the episode.  It was the grittier, showed more of the ups and downs of command.  Having to make the decisions a commanding officer didn't want to make.  To me it showed the things you needed to see to understand what it took for the Federation to keep the status quo.  To protect the members of the Federation and keep the peace overall.

I remember watching the series when it started. I liked it at the time as well. Was a lot different than Next Gen. I feel old now too.
