Fierce Critter
Thanks, a BIG bunch, for your post about Freecycle some time back. We've been benefitting from (and donating to) it for some time now. But over the past week, it's become a lifeline. I redid our budget to take into consideration Jon's company's switch to biweekly paychecks. There will be one week where 1 paycheck has to cover 9 days instead of 7. Then, he'll get a 7-day paycheck that'll have to cover 14 days. We were screwed due to the short notice the company gave him. But I put out a note on Freecycle (I'm on 3 counties' groups here) asking for non-working mowers & other lawn equipment. I was honest and said we would be fixing them and reselling them, as using the groups for reselling is either discouraged, frowned upon or outright banned. The moderators allowed my post to go through, and actually complimented me on finding an honest way to make extra money to get through a tough time. One person who responded is an arborist (tree cutter, etc), and gave us, amongst other things, a small chainsaw that turns out to be worth about $150 on eBay, a hedge trimmer that is worth at least $200, and a riding lawn mower that Jon got running yesterday that we should be able to sell for at least $300 out front. We were going to sell everything out front, but the chainsaw & hedge trimmer are running on eBay right now, where we can get the biggest profit. We got a few other things that are pretty much as dead as can be. But just the stuff from that one guy will get us through this paycheck transition, and possibly help us on the way toward rebuilding our moving-to-Michigan savings account. Thanks so much! :grin (And if anyone reading this is NOT Freecycling - YOU SHOULD BE!!!)
