Embarrassing that there are no replies to this. 

It was also Rabbit day.  In case you don't know what that means the first of the month you are supposed to say "Rabbit rabbit!" or bunnies! or something similar (doesn't matter as long as it has to do with rabbits) The tradition goes back at least to the 1800s (in 1902 its recorded that 'as the children are want to do" so apparently it was common practice at the time) and since "lucky rabbits" is suspected to go all the way back to Egyptian times or older , its not hard to imagine this being much older than the 1800s.  Probably much much further back but that is the most recent time that we have written evidence for.  The silly superstition is if you say that on the first of the month the good luck will help out during that month. If not ... you're on your own.  It goes along with a well-documented tradition that whatever you are doing on the first of the year is an indication of how the rest of the year will go.  Not that I believe any of this crap, it's just interesting/fun/funny.
