Movie Night One

Recommended Posts

For the people at this Movie Night's afterward discussion, I just wanted you all to know I do not always immediately pull the "Race" card when I talk about things I've experienced, but when it is blatantly in your face, sometimes that is the only card left.

This particular experience involved 7 White adults, 2 Black adults and 2 Black minors.

A White adult couple, sitting in a hosted public space, witnessed the following scenario:

  • One standing White adult, using very colorful language, was speaking to one Black minor seated directly across from them.  Further down, another standing White adult was talking with one standing Black adult about reactions they've received from Black people regarding certain personal situations.  That Black adult was laughing and explaining the whys to that White adult, during which time, serval goodbyes were made between them as their conversation continued.  The other Black adult was seated and playing on a mobile device while being watched by the aforementioned seated White adult couple.  Eventually, the 2 conversing White and Black adults joined the seated Black adult and began discussing images on the seated Black adult's mobile device.  The White couple, after witnessing all of these interactions, left the area without even interacting with the staff in the area where they were seated.  Shortly after, the White adult that had been interacting with the Black minor stepped out of the area.  Shortly after that, the Black adults speaking with the other standing White adult were informed that a claim of certain behavior had just been filed against (who was later revealed to be) the standing Black adult.  The 3 White adults, seated further down, heard this allegation and were baffled as to why such a report was filed against anyone in the first place since they had witness the entire situation.

So what did the standing Black adult do that warranted a claim being brought against them?

The only reason I mentioned Black and White when I told the story was because of all the players in this scenario, the only person who was called out by the couple, amidst all the talking, colorful wordplay, activities and interactions, was the one standing Black person in the story.  No one else.  I wasn't saying that the couple was racists, I'm just saying of all the stuff that went on, they pointed out only one person.  Why not the group of all involved?

If the details had been reversed, I would have told the story from that perspective because initially the White adult speaking with the Black adult thought it was at them because they were a White person saying "Black people" several times.  So everyone left in the area was totally confused.

That's it in a very large nutshell.

😏

Now I feel the same XD

No worries, you all were busy with a popcorn situation, the Boy, and Trene had her phone app thing going on.

This was in response to a comment Troy made while I was reiterating the story to Bobbie and Tina.  I didn't want Tina to think I had a Black vs. White people thing going on.  If the situation at the restaurant had been different, like if I were yelling profanities at the top of my lungs and screaming at people for playing games on their phones, then I could have understood why I was called out by that couple.  So I wrote it the way I did to show WHY I had a question with how events played out.

That's all. 😅
