Please Watch The Gathering 151 Video

Still can't embed videos for whatever reason.  Probably better for me so people actually visit the page youtube doesn't count views that don't happen on youtube. (Thus not helping your standing in the algorythm)

If you haven't please subscribe / hit the bell and like the video.   For bonus points like & comment.   Feedback appreciated.

Just testing and explaining...

BTW there is a legitimate way for you to embed AND receive the count.

Concerning YouTube here is why it doesn't: You could set a video to auto-play , hide and mute it so that no one know about it increasing the count every time the page gets refreshed. And just think of the artificial increments on a board with auto-play even if the video isn't hidden. And just think of the counts if you have the page set to auto refresh!

Now as you see above I should have successfully gotten "Nerd Channel - Charity Vlog - Funny Vlogs Channel - Dr. Who, Monty Python, Supernatural Clips" (to be honest the title sounds like tag baiting) However it will not increment the count. The reason for this is I used the the shortened share url for the video...

SHORT URL
https://youtu.be/e8wMjMMIrBA

FULL URL
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8wMjMMIrBA

Now the same effect could have happened with the full url because IPS will automatically display them as embedded.

Using just urls, YouTube has no way of knowing if you have auto-play on or off.

What YouTube wants you to use is their supplied code.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/e8wMjMMIrBA" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Something should pop out at you.

It is an inline frame meaning you are not just displaying a video but a youtube page.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/e8wMjMMIrBA

If you click that link you will be directed to a full browser screen display of the video but it is still a page not a direct link to the media.

With that knowledge the hurdle is the board its self.

If I am not confusing IP.Board with a superior board it will either allow you to use designated html and restrict its use, create custom BBCode or getting a free add-on.

Back when I was a member of the International Carnivorous Plant Society I administrated a board that was a complete taxonomy hierarchy of sub-forums and I was writing custom bbcode constantly so that posts could be better formatted to improve understanding.

Oh and I'm not trying to be a dick with this next point but unless you get a burst of views in a day, at the level you are at, your views aren't really going to help your standing in the algorithm.

You need to focus on getting subscriber 100 so that you can get a custom YouTube url. This will make giving out your channel name more likely to generate subs. For now I suggest Using this channel link on DGN  The Troy Spiral Experience

You should use shorter titles, more tags and use some of the keywords in the title as tags.

I noticed you don't seem to use click bait titles often so keep that infrequency going.

Remember, the bigger you get on YouTube, the more brutal it becomes. You either have to be an asshole or be good at ignoring them.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for taking the time to type that all up I appreciate the feedback.   I've yet to have any dicks show up on my youtube channel but I've long been anticipating them.  hah.

I think you can (or at least could) use frames in IPB , not sure if you still can or not.  Not by default obviously.

I am aware of the views being fairly joke-level until my subscriber count and more importantly longer term the watchtime count which youtube now values over almost everything else in terms of helping you grow your channel.  It doesn't count subs for any other reason than to "unlock features".   The algorithm now doesn't see "subscribe" without the bell as being anything more than a large "like this a lot" button and it doesn't  mean "i like this channel a lot" it means "I like what type of content youtube thinks this channel is about a lot".   Bell >Watch Time > Sub> Like ( Like sounds strange but with youtube's video-specific algorithm it doesn't care that much that you hit subscribe, it tries to figure out what this video is about, and shows you other things like it, not necessarily anything by that content creator) Not that anyone I know of has the inside info on that, but they have done tests and apparently that is the way it works.  Subscribe doesn't mean subscribe (hitting the bell means subscribe)  thanks for changing the definition of subscribe!  lol

The title of this video is 100% tag baiting, the way the new incarnations of youtube's algorithm work until you have 1000+ subscribers and 4,000+ hours of watch time (In the last 12 months) good luck getting any views without doing that tag game playing =( . Welcome to being a tiny youtuber.  Its a huge complaint but its how youtube works.  70% of your views come from "suggested videos" , which only get suggested to people that youtube thinks would be interested in what the video is about.  Small youtubers have no "authority" to their tags so the tags just have to be all very targeted and make for awkward  use.  To make that crystal clear (and fight the competition for that same space)...  we are reduced to this, and even then the competition is so rough for people below 1000 subscribers it still doesn't work very well.

That particular video has the most views of any of my less than a year old videos.  Unfortunately that one being the prime example of tag baiting , it works.  =/   My other videos with 1 exception are less egregious.  lol

Youtube ignores you unless your Title,  First 3 lines of the description,  hashtags  and "real" tags (you can't see them) aren't all just perfect in terms of what it wants.  Even then it still mostly ignores you until you miraculously get to the 1K subs 4k hours watch time threshold. Which from things I've watched has also been tested and shown to be true.

One thing that is hurting me is I don't have a clear "niche" (another thing youtube now wants).  The reason that is so hard is my brain doesn't have a niche.  Doing videos about the same damn subject every week... basically forever is a hard sell for me.

Well, turn on/install frames and I'll help you test. Having the ability to up your views directly on DGN will help.

However, I would not make their use a simple button click. Make sure you have to manually type them in, That way people wont inadvertently help t series and the like.
