I mean it's less about you and more about all the other users on the forum that runs on a server you don't own.  Even if you did own it then the trust vector is reduced to people willing to trust you and the software you'd allow to run on it.

Not that all of this isn't also being indexed by every search engine that exists along with whatever TLAs and corporations that want the data, but I feel that every little bit helps.

Though there is an argument that making yourself more obscure exposes you more and that it's better to just blend in with the crowd of mindless automatons using Windows 10/11, Chrome, and the default settings for both.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, your are saying that if DGN was on it's own server that I owned, it would make members (such as yourself) feel less anxious about the data bots collecting your personal information?  Just verifying.

Well it would be a huge step toward the right direction anyway.  I'm a big fan of federated decentralized communities.

Ultimately it comes down to who people are willing to trust with their data though.  I come here because I've been here almost since before this incarnation of it but I wouldn't say that I trust it, rather that I don't care.  I really should invest in a VPN but I'm kinda cheap and I really don't care.  But I do care which is why I'm not on Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, etc...  I do watch YouTube and brows Reddit but I don't have an account on either not that not having one prevents them from tracking.  I think it's equal parts I'm lazy and all the privacy is overwhelming, especially the fact that there's like 40 years of data on me out there.  I know I should care and do more to protect any more from leaking and I try but I still use insecure networks and associate with people who don't care.

Speaking of, even with SMS which isn't encrypted anyway there are things like Facebook Messenger that everyone uses that reads the texts I send those people.  I never agreed to that shit and the same type of thing happens whenever I send an e-mail to someone with a gMail address.  There are other examples but those are the two biggest that readily come to mind.

I sleep so much and yet I'm still so very tired.  That's partly because of things like this.

DGN is great though.  I wouldn't still show up if it wasn't.  It's at least more free than any of the other corporate social networks.

Thinking about just taking the profits and moving on from $HOOD. A huge portion of their revenue is from rates that the Fed will likely be cutting this year.

Whenever I read your posts referencing finances, in the back of my mind, I think of you like the Warren Buffet of DGN.

Bloody hell! LMAO. I'm beginner at best. Most of my holdings are in ETFs that pay out monthly dividends. 2nd most is just cash on the sidelines earning a 5% APY, and HOOD is my first real attempt at a swing play. Now I'm looking at stocks like NVDA and thinking I could be doing better. If I just bought two shares of NVDA 3 months ago, I would be up by about $400, and I could have bought 20 of them back then. Instead, I chose to keep periodically putting that cash into my ETFs. I know I could do better, but this is also me applying what I've learned so far. I work with what I know, and learn through more experience, maybe some day in a couple years from now I'll be making sharper decisions like with NVDA. Until then, I'm steady holding, letting it sit on the back burner.

I always worry about the volatility of something like NVDA, although it does have a fairly attractive graph 10 year graph for all its volatility.  Its P/E ratio is too high for me and makes me worry they are overextending and I won’t get out in time.   Its high price is also a turnoff right now for me.  As I get older, I am leaning more towards the dividend stocks too.  I kinda like VZ at the moment because of its low price and fairly high dividend. (O) also has some appeal with its monthly dividend but I don’t trust it as much to not crash out even lower than it is now, and it’s P/E ratio isn’t as appealing as (VZ) for its price.

Yeah, I started with UEVM (A USAA ETF) it's dividends vary. Seems none for Jan or Feb if this year, but that's on track with what I'm used to. SPHD is my 2nd holding, it's dividends are far more consistent. This year is JEPQ and their dividends are decent with plenty of exposure to NVDA, and other big tech stocks. Also HOOD as a swing play to see it can't squeeze out a few hundred extra to sit and collect extra interest in my cash account. It what keeps me chill while I still hunt for the next job.

Thinking of starting a new thread. Something if a general financial take, like places that may offer high yield savings accounts, any stocks anybody may have an interest in, collaborate due diligence, etc. So I'm not thread jacking shit. Just don't know what category it would fit best in.

The cool thing about the "What are you thinking" thread is the fact that it is what you are thinking, so there is no thread jacking here. 😁

However, I was also thinking the same thing like creating a Financial Sub Forum down by Classifieds.  People are more interested in stock options, forex, futures, commodities, and the likes than you would think.

Having discussions on the topic of finances helps people understand investment point of views and may even spark an interest in it where they may have been too hesitant to do.

Wow Firefox is letting me quote again! Yay! And that's where my thoughts were too. Like Twitter is good, but also horrible at the same time. One wrong tweet in the process of learning and you are liable to get dragged hard. And the ignorance of some in the finance community too. Hard to tell what direction to take at first. But a smaller and more relaxed setting would be great for people just doing this passively. Less elitism too. That's another thing that bothers me about fintwit, feckin EVERYONE is beating the S&P500 on there. Just so much noise and static on there. DGN could be like our own little quiet study group in the corner of the library while Twitter is some vapid pep rally in the gym. I'm all about sharing ideas, learning more, being corrected when I'm wrong, etc without all that public humiliation that Twitter offers.

Just let me know if you are actually planning on making a topic for this, otherwise I can just start topics in other stuff.

Once I get the Sub-forum set up, I will relocate your thread there.  It will show the move link for 30 day.  So far I see the "High Yield Savings Account".

Thinking this pull back from $HOOD was healthy. It felt right, it didn't sink too low, and is on a slow increase since. I am now up 50% on my position. Over 90% of the stock is owned by institutions at this point. It's slowly going up again. Thinking nothing will make it suddenly move higher or lower until First Quarter Earnings. I'm expecting them to have more earnings than 4th quarter, and possibly beat whatever the expectations for their 1st are. Just waiting until the earnings come in a couple months.

Wow, I got up taking care of so much stuff that I finally had a moment to sit down and visit the site and a couplet of apps on my phone.  I missed a lot.  Some stuff was important and other stuff was just for fun.  Fortunately, nothing was detrimental...thank goodness.

But I do need to take care of the important things.
