I'm thinking I had a great time last friday at Misty's son's party and then with Tron and Tammy at karaoke.

It was so odd to have my purse checked to go into a private karaoke joint. Especially in my envelope on a string. Lol.

I came across this museum, "Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum", of old fashioned wind up toys, vintage coin-operated machines, nostalgic exhibits, etc., and it made me think of the song you sang.

@Marblez

Yeah, I have to admit, that place is not like it used to be.  Although the building and the rooms are basically the same, you can tell it is definitely under new management.  It went from Ghost Town to PACKED on a Friday night.  A totally new experience.  If we do go again, I'm booking room 1.  I know it's a medium room, but it's at the front door and  no rooms are across from it.  Plus it does have its own restroom.

It would then just depend on the day and time of day.

I'm thinking someone needs to go back to meteorology school.

I know you are supposed to take the forecast with a grain of salt, but when three different forecast apps and channels calls for thunderstorms and heavy rains all day, you have to figure that at least the average would have something close to what will be happening in your area.

I rushed getting stuff done yesterday so I wouldn't be out in the "monsoon" today...and all we got was some sprinkles of rain this morning with heavy cloud cover.  Now it's in the 80's and Sunny.

This is disappointing because the outdoors portion of my work depends largely on the weather and, as of late, it has been coming across like some weather fanatic rookie, updating singular focused forecast predictions to public media apps from their mother's basement.

When I was in high school we did an experiment where we took the weather forecast for the week and flipped a coin.  The forecast was about as accurate as flipping a coin.

I only trust the weather rock, because the weather rock is never wrong.

I love the Weather Rock.

It's just that when you've had semi-accurate weather reports that you can use to make a good determination of the outcome of your day for 30 years, you really notice when that system seems to have been taken over by Smurfs.  Gremlins could do a better job.

All they can do is go off the radar and generate computer models.  They usually do a really fantastic job, but no one can 100% predict the future.

Yeah, but at least in the past when they looked at the radar and watched the direction the colors were moving in, they used to make the distinction between "Metro Detroit" and the actual "City of Detroit".  The forecast was very accurate for where my sister lives out in the suburbs, but not for where we live...a few miles from the Ren Cen.

The storm clouds came close enough to drop a few sprinkles for that morning and moved on while the outlining upper areas got hammered on and off for most of the day (which was the forecast I received for my zip code for 3 different weather apps).  As the radar showed nothing in our immediate area for the rest of the entire day, they eventually updated the forecast to show clear skies with overcast for Detroit.

This incident brought to mind something that was noted a while back.  About a decade or two ago, when the census showed a drop in Detroit's population, a circulation went around that read, "Last person out of the City, turn off the lights".  We haven't quite reached that point yet, we're still here. :wave

I remember that article: https://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/2011/04/adam_finch_selected_as_last_pe.html

Though I do believe that Seattle was the first city to jokingly say that back in 1971.  https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/iconic-will-the-last-person-seattle-billboard-bubbles-up-again/

As for the weather yesterday called for storms in my area, yet there really weren't any storms.  They're really slipping lately.  Maybe they're trying to add in AI or something?

My neighbor down the hall got raided yesterday.  I thought he was dead so I asked one of the 20 cops outside if he had died and they told me he was arrested and he was doing bad stuff. I can't believe I blurted out, is he dead like that though 🤔 I was scared he got murdered because apparently a strange man wandered in yesterday morning looking for his wife who was not supposed to be here per my neighbor upstairs conversation with him. I just assumed that it was related.

What I meant by "outlining upper areas" of Metro Detroit was the stretch, the radar showed of the storm coverage, going from Novi thru Sterling Heights as it headed into Canada.

My beef is that it hadn't been common practice to continuously label everything as Metro Detroit until these past few years...unless there is a crime, then it's always "The City of DETROIT" with a disclaimer of the actual city where it happened, somewhere off to the side.

"A major drug bust just happened right outside the city of Detroit, breaking news up next.  In Warren, Ohio..."

But I digress. 😐

The problem with being one of the most recognizable cities is that for a majority of people in the country/world all they know of Michigan is Detroit.  So everything becomes Metro Detroit.  To me and most other locals it's an area that stops about where the sprawl does (basically where those small blue blocks stop and turn into the large green area.)  As far West as Ann Arbor and as far North as Clarkston / New Haven.

This is not to be confused with Detroit proper though which stops at 8 Mile / M-102 / Baseline Road which goes WAY the fuck out West stopping north of Ann Arbor before it runs into a lake (and a very short stint after.)

I do agree that they should stop referring to the entire region of Metro Detroit as one entity though.  Referring to the counties themselves would probably be more accurate (I say probably because there's a whole lot of the North / West end of those that aren't a part of the sprawl.)

Unfortunately it seems like after one riot Detroit is forever tainted as a real life equivalent of Mos Eisley.  It's got a reputation worse than New York or the South side of Chicago.  If I'm in a bad area I don't say I'm from Metro Detroit, I say I'm from Detroit and people take a step back like that means something, because it does.

Looking at statistics Detroit seems to account for most of the crime in Michigan:

https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/mi/detroit/crime

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2019/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019/tables/table-8/table-8-state-cuts/michigan.xls

My father flat out refuses to go South of 8 Mile while I've never held such a fear.  He still sighs whenever I tell him I'm going down there like I'm going to Kyiv.  Detroit is doing what it can to clean up its image and I hope more people change their opinion regarding it.  The news is definitely not helping though, but they're just trying to get that advertising dollar and push their agenda.

I will say it's annoying living in the burbs that we sometimes get hated on for not being "native Detroiters" when we visit.  Though the reverse is also true and there are a lot of racist/classist idiots who wish they'd stay "down there." This is suspected to be the reason why the Q Line is a joke and doesn't go all the way to Pontiac like it was originally planned to, because NIMBYs didn't want black/poor folks going through their neighborhoods.

Sorry for the infodump / rant but it's late, I'm bored, and my mind won't shut up.

"Bad stuff" is very subjective.  I like to reserve judgement until the charges are laid out and the trial has run its course.  Even then the court of public opinion may still hang people.

In a way I hope he did whatever it was to warrant that type of a response, because if he didn't that would mean the system made a mistake and harassed an innocent man.  I'm not really sure which is worse but I guess it depends on the severity of the alleged crime and the level of harassment in response to that.

I wanna reactivate my factor 75 account, but it's gonna have to wait until I'm back from vacation and I get money going again into the checking account.

Factor's akin to hello fresh to having food being shipped to your house. The difference is that with Factor, the meals come already cooked and put together. You microwave it for two minutes. Hello fresh is you do all the prep, cook, clean up.
