The Gathering 205.xx3: In Memoriam

 

A note from the Founder

The Gathering 205 was the official last "Real" Gathering.

 

I will continue making the cards before Thursday.  They will be numbered in the following sequence:

205.xx1, 205.xx2, etc.

Until we are able to have another "Real" Gathering again.

 

If you would like a weekly "The Gathering...In Memoriam" card, please take a moment to request one here by stating:

"I would like a card"

(This will let me know that you will make an effort to pick them up when we finally do gather again.)

 

If you post here, I will save them for you.

 

NOTE: It could be a month or it could be 2 years before we can have another Prosocial House Spiral gathering....

I'm holding a virtual one on the new Discord server I made.  There is voice chat and music too in certain rooms.

I mean since we can't meet in person I figure this is the next best thing right?

 About 20 people have suggested some variation of this over the last 3 weeks.  Similar to an alternative to DGN itself back in the day or an alternative to the gathering itself previously.   Many have already had such things. 

10s of thousands have been suggesting similar ideas for the lack of human socializing in general.

The devil is in the details and having it consistently. 

Many people get excited about ideas, actually keeping them going over time is the hard part.  

It takes 1. work  2. dedication 3. perseverance.     The first one is the easiest.

That's a good girl.  (Correct me if this is not a way you'd like to be referred to. I mean it as a compliment at any rate. ). 

The loss of the the real-life gathering around here is pretty rough for several people.  Not that its a gigantic group but every week for 4 years and now... this.  Is a big change.   Thanks for taking the time!  

I'm doing this partly to continue with a sense of continuity.  Many of us now have even less structure than we did before. At least this will be something familiar.  😈✊😄

Oh no Sir I absolutely love being referred to as a good girl!  Even though much of the time I'm a bad girl! ; )

 I'm sure it's hard using the gathering for many people if you generally in that being alone in this world and you have a group it's hard to lose it I can relate to that.

Yeah, but none have been "official" or at least endorsed by this site/the team here.  The entire point is the voice communication, otherwise we could all just log on here I guess, but that makes for a confusing conversation with everyone trying to post in one thread.

The work was easy, setting it up.  With a good team in place the other two will also be easy.  You have a spot on that team if you want it (or you could set up your own Discord, but that just fragments the scene further.)

 

My 2600 meeting is canceled too, but they have a bridge call in number to use.  I'm not even sure the first steps to setting that up though.

There are a hundred different ways to connect with different options and features with each.  Just have to settle on one.  I figured this was the easiest.

Not to hijack this thread, but I must admit @Troy Spiral I was confused by your comment if during this time of national crisis, someone is holding a virtual "Gettogether" as opposed to a real life face-to-face.  If you worry that people are being too antisocial during this time of social distancing, then I'm just a bit confused.

Regarding the idea of a "Virtual Gathering" during this time of social distancing, I would suggest one day a week at a specific time, have a log on and refer to it as something like "Virtual Gettogether Lounge Time" as a cue to individuals that DGNers are online for a virtual Gathering type of thing.  That way it still maintains a distance from being an official DGN "event", but is open to all who still wish to hear each other's voices during this time of imposed quarantine.

One of the tenets of House Spiral is to be Pro-Social (Troy's words in a way), and the discord server (in whatever name it was under and way it went) was another way to be pro-social. I know the DGN board's the baby and what not, and yet it seems like there's ... hesitation in using discord for whatever reason.

This is a really good idea; done through discord (under whatever server) or through zoom. Obviously the virtual get together can be discussed in another topic. 

 

But what do I know? I'm just a person trying to do something for the whole group to be more in touch during this time with an idea that's got shot down.

As it may seem like splitting hairs, when I signed on to become a DGN MOD, I agreed to all the legal jargon that goes along with it.  However, I do feel that there are things that can be done that do not interfere with said regulations still maintain a happy population. 

 

As for "killing" the aforementioned subject, as long as it doesn't state anything that could be viewed as a "conflict of interests" then all decisions would be up to the host.

@NocteSpiritus Zoom is a horrible platform and has had a ton of privacy issues lately.  Something like meet.jit.si is a better option (even though it doesn't roll off the tounge as easily.)

But that's way off topic.  I'll start a new thread about that in Current Events.

OK...I'm Hijacking this Thread.

 

NO your idea did not get shot down.  As I was explaining.  Small changes takes it away from being an issue with this site.  People can gather whenever, however, and on whatever platform they deem fit.  Using a codeword to invite people of a specific group keeps it from looking like one group is trying to steal members from another group if there is not an agreement in place to have the 2 incorporated.  That is all this is about.  And yes, Troy does have to final say since he created all of this, regarding if he wants certain things added to his "baby".  That would be like stealing someone's work, putting your name on it and inviting others to make changes.

 

So please don't get me wrong.  I am just maintaining the "Code of Conduct" regarding the functionality of this site.
