Punk Rock: The Good The bad and The ugly

Recommended Posts

A few months ago I was having a great music discussion with somebody who also loved Punk Rock. Right up until I mentioned Rancid, NOFX and Epitaph records. Then I got the most disgusted look on her face like somebody suggested that she **** her **** with ******

What are you guys think, is Westside punk so bad compared to the East side punk and British punk? I realized they weren't hardcore but they were hilarious as well as political and sometimes hardcore... I think that West Coast punk just got a bad name because of that chick who was in bikini girls with machine guns (or some other little band) hooking up with Kurt Cobain, writing smells like teen Spirit on his wall next to his bed and somehow causing Nirvana to "kill" Punk with Grunge.

I like punk, and I like punk-rock.  To me punk-rock is just punk with good production values.  I've heard it called pop-punk too but I think that's something else (like the "alternative" that Disney and the like push.)

Per usual and as with the goth scene; Fuck elitist pricks telling you what to like or not like, or what is good and isn't.  Unless that elitist prick is me of course, because I actually know what is and isn't good.  Tastes are subjective though, but I believe you can objectively tell if something has good production quality or is just shit, too.
