Rozzlyn
Hey everybody! I just made the WinAmp plug-in work with the site and my compooper. If you want to see what I like to listen to when I'm *not* posting here, go here instead.

Rozzlyn
cool <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh yeah, I'd describe it as kind of a cam-portal for WinAmp -- except you can't actually hear anything, you just get a text list of the songs most recently listened to. It's a neat idea, but there was this thing that you could code into yor website that let people viewing your site see the most recently played song in WinAmp -- which, of course, doesn't exist anymore. This is kinda like that, except I'm not seeing anything that'll let you code something into your site.
Scary Guy
look up spyamp but it doesn't exactly work on your site. More like it turns your computer into a site. Thats one of my favorite sites though as far as music goes. I also like www.musicbrainz.org and www.coverproject.com too.
Rozzlyn
OK, as proof that I'm REALLY addicted to this site, I created a DGN Audoscrobble group: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/group/Detroi...ic%2BScrobblers This way there can be charts for who listens to how much of what -- and with that power, we could probably REALLY determine the DGN theme song. Fierce Critter
This sounds interesting... but I'm confused. What is this for the somewhat technically challenged?
Rozzlyn
This sounds interesting... but I'm confused. What is this for the somewhat technically challenged? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OK, you join the site. After joining the site, you download a plug-in for the music player you use most often on your computer and configure it to your settings. (I use WinAmp, always have -- and if you use it, I can talk you through the process of configuring the plug-in.) After that, it logs what you listen to onto a webpage so you can display your tastes for others. You page will look something like this: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/boirozzlyn/ a friend of mine in Denver has had her account for over a month -- here's what her page looks like: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/o0olellyo0o/ It can take a while for anything to show up after you first get the plug-in configured, but I think it just takes a while for the site's servers to recognise your computer the first time. It took the site almost forty-five minutes to recognise my computer, so if you don't see anything right away, don't worry! I like how it gives you a kind of vouyeristic look into what other people listen to. And I can go "wow, all of these people listen to crappy tunes" a lot. :grin
Fierce Critter
That sounds VERY cool. I share your curiosity. It's a bit of both voyeurism AND exhibitionism I could get into. The one concern I have, however, is the fact that it's reading MY computer. How secure is this as far as the rest of my hard drive?

How secure is this as far as the rest of my hard drive? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I've been reading the forums and the admins who are pretty active on there have turned down some feature suggestions because it can allow spam and spyware to seep through -- and those things are never cool. It all looks like it *just* reads the music player and nothing else.
Fierce Critter
I'll install it on my desktop PC sometime then. Thing is, though, my PC sound system sucks, and my rack system rocks, so I don't use my Winamp all that much. That, and I haven't bothered to burn most of what I already own on CD, tape or vinyl... Maybe it's time to.
