Hey y'all!

The goth grand rapis fb group is having a super cool looking camping event and I was planning to go. It just seems fun and I figured I'd pass the word around :)

I may be mistaken but is that also a drag show going on that same night at that event? Doesn't sound like camping

You would be surprised at what goes on at "alternative" camping events.  That's why they are usually advertised with agendas.

If you're going to a drag show just go to a club. Camping is camping. in nature way from all that club and city life stuff.

True, but when you do a show in nature, you draw from your surroundings.  It has a totally different feel than when you're surrounded by the Urban Jungle.

Its still bringing the urban jungle life to the woods. And all the sounds would scare the animals and offended the gnomes

Not to browbeat the subject, but you sound like a person who takes nature seriously.

However, as you would know, there is a major difference between "wilderness" camping and "campground" camping.

When you want to get back to Nature, you do wilderness camping, surrounded by all that the Earth has to display and offer.  What we call being a survivalist or "roughing it".

When you do campground camping, it's basically a glorified hiking trail where you have a permit to pitch a tent, pound back some beers and feel like you could be the next Les Stroud or Bear Grylls.

In wilderness camping, you are the next Les Stroud or Bear Grylls.

😆

I'm not a survivalist or beer camper lol. But I do know someone who likes to primitive camp in the nude.

i just don't think it's right to be having big shows or crazy events as people are camping, Is it defeats the entire purpose, even for cabin camping.

Just do it at some festival grounds.

and there is something about the forest the demands respect. Could be the gods, it could be spirits, and could be the gnomes. Its best to have complete respect at all times. We are all just hairless monkeys with tools. no higher then a hungry bear in the woods

Campground camping is RV's and trailers.  I really think the only difference is the amount of people near by.  The more people there are the less intimate it feels.  1 is wilderness camping, 2 is generally couple romantic camping, 3 is that with a third wheel, 4-10 is group camping, and any more than 10 it kinda gets out of hand and you have party camping.  I'm not sure where the line is between that and festival camping, but it could be 30-50.  It probably also depends on the attitude of the crowd as well.  They will either respect nature and each other, or they will be dicks.  I think usually it's a mix of both, but how much is that mix weighted matters more.  Also like some fucked up Asch conformity experiment, if one person acts like a dick others might call them out on it, but if multiple people do it that might embolden more people to also act like dicks.

There used to be a girl called Chernobyl here and she still hosts goth camping events.  I think it's like $10 to go and not a lot of people do (invite only but they're not too secretive about it.) I've never gone but I always appreciate the invite (not really a nature guy), and I have had many other friends who have gone and had a great time.

I'm probably not going to be on here too much from here on out. Detroit is pretty far and it might be more isolating than helpful that the only friends I've made so far are online (you're a peach @TronRP

It's perfectly understandable.  Just know, DGN is also used as a post forum as we do have members in various parts of the world.  So there is absolutely nothing wrong with posting how your day went, how you're feeling, what you're doing, how you're doing, etc.

Also, as far as the actual "City of Detroit", I am one of a few who actually live here.  Quite a few members live in what is called "Metro Detroit", but they do claim Detroit as their city.

So, basically, once you are a DGNer, you are a DGNer.  But also note, we will respect your privacy.

Well then I'm going to 100% keep playing around on here.

Tbh I went looking for other online gothic forums and there just aren't any.

I found one but it was vampire themed and everyone was WAY too into it haha...

Although the name of the forum is Detroit Gothic . Net, we accept all.  We have everything from Wiccans to Priests, Atheist to Devout Christians, Country to Goth...and everything in-between.

Literally, all are welcome as long as you play nice...which is one of the Rule criteria to joining the forum.

Just a lil update, the people hosting the event canceled with no warning about a week ago. Unsure why and absolutely gutted.

I am still going to host my silly little craft meet up in a park in Holland and either people will come or people will not and I'll be sewing alone in the gazebo. Whatever way it happens is OK with me.

Yeah, my friend mentioned that.  Hopefully it's back on next year.

I doubt I'll make the craft thing clear on the other side of the state though.  I hope it's a good turnout for you.

I would suggest moving it to a more populated area though (like Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, or Lansing) as you might snag a few more folks.  Best of luck with your event, and if you make it a regular thing I'll list them in my Daylife section.

XD yeah I figured I'd test the water and host in my neck of the woods.

But If there's interest I could see myself doing a monthly thing (likely in Gand Rapids since it's less of a drive)

So far I've got 4 people who are coming out so, I'll be happy either way (might even make cupcakes!)

but I'm sure soon I'll find an excuse to head to the gathering and hopefully put faces to some of yall.

I sincerely hope it's still going on.  It might turn into a monthly if it exists at all.  I haven't heard anything though because no one tells me anything.

I really don't hope I have to start my own, or yell at @Maureen Falcon and @Stu to start their's back up.  But that's just one splinter gathering.  I feel like one gathering would do great but this idea deserves its own post.

If I get a vote, I'd be happy to see The Gathering continue.  Our "Rendezvous Gothique" was never intended to be a "splinter gathering," but the fruition of a discussion to have one on the east side, as the Westland area is quite the hike for some of us!  We did take some time off due to other stuff, but Moe and I would be happy to call another meeting!  (Perhaps sometime after my DAM thing on the 11th?)  Would anyone else consider joining us?  Our last one was held at the Ram's Horn on Dequindre, just S of 13 Mile.

As far as I know that was not the reason but rather an added bonus.  The catalyst for that was Troy putting his foot in his mouth and ostracizing Moe.

Unless I'm wrong on that and your events started before he did that.  Which I could totally see him doing as one of the times he banned me from here was for just helping to administrate Moonlit Michigan when that existed (even though I in no way promoted that here.) I eventually took it over when @e-jewell got tired of running it and then shut it down (a few months?) later due to inactivity.

He later apologized in his own way and invited me back.

I was going to go to the goth camping night too, and was bummed that it was cancelled. The Goths of Grand Rapids group seems to have a problem with cancelling things in general. It's really frustrating to try to go meet people on this side of the state because everything even remotely like an alternative lifestyle seems to stop at Lansing and doesn't come this far west. 😕

I still feel bad about that whole thing.  Moe isn't everyone's "cup of tea," for sure, but I was a bit shocked by that whole dust-up.  I also didn't see any way to fix it - the damage had been done.  In any case, the discussion of having an east side gathering had been going on for a while.  Given the atmosphere at the time, it was as good a time as any to start.

I'm thinking that we should re-ignite RG and set a recurring day of the month for it.  (Weekly might be a bit much?)

As I said in the other thread i made (because this is WAY OT) a monthly is a great idea.  I mean we could do a weekly hangout at someone's house maybe but eating out that often is pricey, especially in the current economy.

Yes, we've been doing Goth Camping (i.e. MANFAST for the old goths here) for 13 years, unfortunately we had to cancel our normal event this year in June. We are debating on doing it at the end of August, not sure how many takers there would be.  Scary Guy is correct, and it's not invite only it's technically open to anyone, in the past you HAD to be on DGN or go with someone on DGN to go so it did used to be invite-only.  We generally hold it in White Lake Twp, we are trying to get land for next year, but if we fit one in at the end of August it would most likely be in Oakland County this year.

    • Well it happened, understandably but it still sucks.  I hated them both so I was going to be unhappy either way, but I do admit I hate Trump slightly more because of the narcissism, egomania, xenophobia, and misogyny.  On top of that that insufferable base of his who think that they are free to act the same way now that he's won.  The apologetics from them were horrible too where they handwaved away legitimate criticisms, and mocking those who brought them with "orange man bad!"   The one good thing to come out of this is punk music is going to absolutely rock for the next few years.  However I really just have one question... https://www.loudersound.com/features/andrew-eldritch-sisters-of-mercy-will-make-another-album-if-trump-is-elected IT'S HAPPENED TWICE NOW ANDY, WHERE'S OUR FUCKIN' ALBUM‽ Well, I guess at least I'll get to keep my guns.
